The Hall of Faith chapter, Hebrews 11, brings us a picture of this world versus the viewpoint of God in a nutshell. It shows human beings who have served the Lord moving in FAITH across history. They have mighty victories, bring great blessing into other people’s lives, suffer terribly, are persecuted but won’t give up, they are patient and courageous. Why, because they were better and stronger than you are? No, they were weak and little like you, but they trusted the One Who has defeated even death! They loved not their own lives, even unto death.
“And they overcame him [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb,READ chapter 11:32-40.
and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” (Rev. 12:11).
The Book of Hebrews, as a whole,
shows:
1. A superior Christ and a superior Faith;
2. The saved of God in a Faith race with many witnesses;
3. The mighty Saviour urging us on, and interceding constantly for us;
4. The world’s system in awesome fury and enmity against God and His people;
5. The devil as the “god” of this world, and the enemy of Christ and His saved ones;
6. The end and glory for God’s people being IN THE FUTURE, in the CITY God has prepared for us, not here. There is a reward beyond this life.
Remember also that we shall have the
glory of Heaven and home with our Father one day, and our suffering here
and faith through it will rebound to Christ’s glory.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” ( 1 Peter 1:3-7).
Hebrews 12:25-29.
DISCUSS:
Did you see the series on television about
the 1940s house?
In it a modern day family relived the experiences
and conditions of people in the 1940s going through the war times in London.
They had a 1940s house, the food rationing,
clothes and facilities of the period.
It was hard and difficult, the family hated
it all at first, but by the time the series was over they did not want
to go back to modern life!!!
Can you suggest why,
and how this relates to Biblical Christianity
and “prosperity-style" fake “Christianity”?
