We will deal here with some of the glorious typology found in the
Old Testament, but firstly let us be clear about typology. To say something
is a "type" does not imply that we should adopt an allegorical approach
to Scripture. We do not reject the historical reality of these records,
we do not spiritualise the real persons and happenings away, this would
be a liberal interpretation. Liberals would consider that Adam was not
a real person, but that he was merely a symbolic representation of all
men. The writers of the New Testament, and Jesus Christ Himself, spoke
of the Old Testament characters as literal historical figures. Joseph,
for example, may be a type of Christ in many ways, but Joseph was an actual
person, he is not an allegory.
TYPES are shown to be so in Scripture. We cannot just invent them for ourselves, as some today are inclined to do. For an example, Galatians 4:24 refers to the story of Hagar and Sarah, and shows a type, which in the text reads "things are an allegory." This does not give us the right to have an allegorical approach to Scripture, it means that we can take an allegorical APPLICATION, not an allegorical INTERPRETATION. I hope the reader understands here. ANTITYPE has not the meaning of anti-God, or antichrist. It is the other side, so to speak, of the type. NOT "anti" anything, simply the theological term for the opening of the type. The type comes first, the antitype comes second. The shadow is seen, then the Scriptures open up the substance.
TYPOLOGY MUST BE BALANCED.
Typology can be taken to extremes, as any truth can be. Keeping the balance is important here. Some passages which are shown in the New Testament to be types in the Old Testament are:
The first Adam is a contrasting type of the Second Adam (Romans 5:12-19; 1 Cor.15:21-22, 45-47). Eve is a type of the Church (Ephesians 5:29-33). Abraham and Isaac are a type of the Father who offered His only-begotten Son (Hebrews 11:17-19).
The experiences of Joseph, which parallel those of Jesus Christ so closely that it could not be a mere coincidence, although not explicitly shown as a type in Scripture, are obviously so. The many and various sacrifices and feasts of Judaism which are obviously fulfilled in Jesus Christ, are types shown to be so in many, many Scriptures and doctrines throughout the Word.
The primary emphasis should not be lost, however, on the actual events and their historical significance, which have their own place in the Divine scheme of the Redemption of mankind. We must always stress that these are real-life events and people, and a true historical record of man's primeval origin and Judaism's history. Because some, on the other hand, create types that do not exist, there is no reason for denying types where they do exist. Consider these Scriptures:
"Now these things were our examples (tupoi, types)." "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples (types tupoi), and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world (ages) are come." (1 Cor.10:6,11). "And did all drink the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ." (1 Cor. 10:4). "...For even Christ, our passover, is sacrificed for us." (1 Cor.5:7).
A LOOK AT TYPOLOGY OF THE OLD TESTAMENT.
Scroggie quotes Bishop Marsh on types: "To constitute one thing the type of another, something more is wanted than mere resemblance. The former must not only resemble the latter, but must have been designed to resemble the latter. It must have been so designed in its original institution. It must have been designed as something preparatory to the latter. The type as well as the antitype must have been pre-ordained; and they must have been of Divine Providence. It is this previous design, and this pre-ordained connection (together, of course with the resemblance) which constitute the relation of type to antitype." (p.501).
So, God designs the authentic types and antitypes of Scripture. He has a previously worked out plan for these, which enriches the Word so wonderfully. It is as though the type, a shadow, a picture, highlights the antitype, the ultimate meaning, the substance which caused the shadow - and makes us understand in depth the very "soul" of the antitype. A beautiful design of the Lord's. Understanding the reality of such types and antitypes will surely make us realise that we can never go back to Judaism, and the things of the Jewish dispensations. For Christ Himself is the Great Antitype, the Ultimate Reality, which vastly surpasses the OT.
We will deal with ...

Not a dry study, typology is a thrilling investigation which makes Scripture come alive in a special way. The references may be too lengthy at this stage to read all of them, do your best.
ADAM: He is a type of Christ as Federal Head of the human race.(Romans 5:12-21). Adam is a contrasting type - he is sin and death; Christ is righteousness and life. Adam drew down to his own ruin, the whole human race, which was the old creation (Rom.8:19-22, he was lord and federal head. Christ, as antitype, brings the new creation into unity again with God, and gives eternal life, He is Lord and Federal Head of this new creation. Christ draws whosoever will into His own recreation out of ruin. (Ephesians 1:22,23).
MELCHIZEDEC:
He is a type of Christ as the Priest-King. (Gen.14:18-20; Psalm
110:4; Zech.9:13; Heb.7). This type applies to the priestly work of Christ
in resurrection. "After the order of Melchizedek" in Heb.6;20 refers to
the royal authority and unending priesthood of Christ's High Office as
Priest (Heb.7:23,24). Christ could never be defeated and removed by death,
as the Aaronic priests were. Melchizedek has no record in history of birth
or death, he is a mysterious figure. Christ is a priest after the order
of Melchezidek in His role as King of Righteousness and King of Peace (Isaiah
11:4-9; Heb.7:2), His is an endless priesthood.
JOSEPH:
He is the most perfect type of Christ, as a most beloved son, a
suffering servant and a gracious sovereign (Gen.37-50).
Both Joseph and Christ Jesus were specially loved of the father (Gen.37:3; Matt.3:17; John 3:35; 5:20). Both were hated of their own brethren (Gen.37:4; John 15:25). They both made claims of superiority which were utterly rejected by their brethren (Gen.37:8; Matt.21:37-39; John 15:24,25). The brethren of both of them plotted against them to kill them (Gen.37:18: Matt.26:3,4). Joseph was, in intent and figure, killed by his brethren, as was Christ (Gen.37; 24; Matt.27:35-37). Each became a blessing to the Gentiles, and both gained a Gentile bride (Gen.41:1-45; Acts 15:14; Eph.5:25-32). Joseph reconciled his brethren to himself in wonderful grace. So too, one day, will Christ Jesus reconcile His Jewish brethren with Grace. Joseph exalted his brethren, so too will Christ exalt the Jews, His brethren. (Gen.45:1-15; Deut.30:1-10; Hos.2:14-18: Rom.11:1,15, 25,26).
MOSES:
He was a type of Christ as Prophet (Deut.18:15-19; Acts 3:22,23;
Luke 7:16). Note too the test of the prophets in Deut.18:20-22. There are
false prophets abounding today, who do not speak from God - "thou shalt
not be afraid of him." Look only to the Great Prophet, Jesus Christ, who
will through His Word, the Holy Scriptures, reveal by the Holy Spirit things
that will shortly come to pass. We need no other prophet, nor should we
ever listen to the fake prophecies of the Last Days.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God were moved by the Holy Ghost." (11 Peter 1:19-21)
DAVID:
He was a type of Christ as King (11 Samuel 7:12-17; Rev.11:15; 12:10;
19:16). Jesus Christ will rule as the antitype, from the throne of David.
The Davidic Covenant is the Covenant upon which the glorious Kingdom of
Christ "of the seed of David according to the flesh" shall be founded.
Note that the Davidic Covenant secures for the antitype, the Lord Jesus
Christ:
1. A Davidic "house" (11 Sam.7:16); i.e. He is of the posterity,
the family of David;
2. A "throne" (v16). ..................................Christ will
have royal authority;
3. A "kingdom" (v16). ...............................Christ will
rule, as David did, but He will rule the whole earth;
4. How long?(v16). ....................................."forever"
The antitype of David the type, will restore the kingdom of David, ruled from Israel the chosen nation. No, God has not cast off the Jews, He has laid them aside for a season!
See the antitype bring to being the Davidic Covenant, confirmed to
David by the oath of Jehovah, which was renewed to Mary by the angel Gabriel
in regard to the very birth of that antitype, Jesus Christ (Luke 1:30-33).
The Davidic Covenant was vowed by God in an immutable oath, it is unchanging,
stable, constant
(Psalm 89:30-37).
The last time a King of the Davidic line was crowned as king, He
was crowned with thorns! That thorn-crowned One will be given the "throne
of his father David", the Almighty Himself will do it.
(Luke 1:31-33; Acts 2:29-32; 15:14-17).
Scripture describes Old Testament types, remember. Let us just look carefully at this description:
"The example and shadow of heavenly things" (Heb.8:5). Note the whole description here in Hebrews 8:1-5. It is of the true tabernacle, God said to Moses, "See, saith he, thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount." Scofield writes: "Because the Aaronic priests served the shadow of which Christ serves the realities."
"The patterns of things in the heavens" (Heb.9:23). "A shadow of good things to come" (Heb.10-1). "A shadow of things to come; but the body (or Substance in contrast to the shadow) is of Christ" (Col.2:17). The law observances were abolished in Christ - the Substance had come! (Col.2:14-17).
Pollock makes these stupendous statements in the book cited above: "Someone has well described the Tabernacle as 'a prophecy in linen, silver, and gold.' It is instinct with deep spiritual meaning. It is fragrance of Christ. It is a striking testimony to the fullness and inspiration of the Word of God. Its teaching is one of the richest mines of purest gold in the whole Bible.
Creation was necessary to afford a platform on which God could carry out His plan. The shadows of that scheme are given us in the Tabernacle. The earth in which we live is for eternity. The Sabbath is a shadow of God being all in all throughout eternity. The scaffolding will be taken down one day. The building of God will arise majestic and eternal to God's glory and praise. God will yet rest in the complacency of His love, dwelling among His people, in a scene where there will be no tears, pain, sorrow or death."
EXODUS 25:1-9 tells us of the collecting of materials for the building
of the Tabernacle of the Jews. It would take a book to bring all these
types to the student, we must be satisfied with but a few. I hope these
few examples will whet your appetite to go further into these yourself.
In the wilderness God announced His intention to dwell amongst His people,
the Israelites. To this end, He instructed Moses to build a Tabernacle,
telling him of the order of sacrifices, the service of the priests, the
work of the Levites, and what sort of conduct was expected of the people
who were to be brought into relationship with the Almighty. The God they
worshipped then is the God we worship today. No wonder the details of the
Tabernacle are not just boring old descriptions of rituals and primitive
worship which happened a long, long time ago.
A. J. Pollock

The Tabernacle was divided, it had two compartments.
The first was the Holy Place, or the Sanctuary.
This was the larger of the two, in it the priests performed their
holy work.
In the second, smaller compartment the glory of God dwelt upon
the Mercy Seat.
It was called the Holiest of All, the Holy of Holies.
It was perhaps the most expensive structure that has ever been. Pollock tell us: "Over 160,000 pounds (money) of gold and over 34,000 pounds (money) of silver, besides quantities of linen, precious stones, rare spices, oil, blue, purple, scarlet dyes, etc., were used in its construction. The weight of the silver has been computed at 4 tons. This small building, its total length about 54 feet, its breadth about 16 feet, was valued at about 200,000 pounds (money)." Today it would be phenomenal!
We will look at
2. SILVER:
is typical of redemption. The half shekel of silver demanded of
the males from twenty years and on when Israel was numbered, is called
"atonement money" (Exodus 30:16).
3. BRASS:
is typical of atonement, in the special aspect of the judgement
of God being brought upon Christ at the Cross of Calvary, it was really
man's responsibility. The word "brass" would be better translated as "copper".
Brass is not as fire-resistant as copper, although the KJV translates it
as Brazen Altar.
4. BLUE:
is typical of heavenly things. The colour of the cloudless sky above.
5. PURPLE:
is typical of the glory of Christ Jesus as King of kings and Lord
of lords. The Roman Emperors wore purple. "To don the purple" meant to
ascend the Imperial Throne.
6. SCARLET:
is typical of the glory of Christ as the King of Israel. Remember
when our Lord claimed to be the King of Israel that the soldiers put on
Him a scarlet robe? (Matt.27:11,28).
7. FINE LINEN:
is typical of the spotless life which Christ lived on earth, sinless
and pure. This is revealed in those who share His life, our lives by the
power of the Holy Spirit, become finally absolutely pure. "The fine linen
is the righteousness of saints" (Rev.19:8).
8. GOAT'S HAIR:
is typical of Christ as Prophet. See Zechariah 13:4,5: 11 Kings
1:8; Matt.3:4.
9. RAM'S SKINS DYED RED:
is typical of Christ's love and devotion to the Father, even unto
death! The "ram" is called the ram of consecration (Exod.29:26) and "dyed
red" shows how far that consecration will go.
10. BADGER'S SKINS:
is typical of Christ as seen by the world. These skins were right
over the outside of the Tabernacle, hiding the beauty within. This illustrates
Isaiah 53:2: "He hath no form not comeliness: and when we shall see Him,
there is no beauty that we should desire Him."
11. SHITTIM WOOD:
is typical of the humanity of Christ.
12. OIL:
is typical of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called in the
NT "The Anointing" (1 John 2:27). kings, prophets and priests were anointed
with oil in the OT times.
13. SPICES, ONYX and PRECIOUS
STONES:
are typical for the fragrance of Christ before God; and the preciousness
of the believers in their relationship to Christ. (Malachi 3:16,17).
14.THE
ARK:
15. THE MANNA:
is a type of Christ as the true Bread of Life come down from Heaven
(Exodus 16: John 6:48-51; Rev.11:17).
16. THE BRAZEN SERPENT:
is a type of Christ "lifted up" to die for our spiritual healing
(John 3:14).
17. THE RENT VEIL:
is the type of Christ who opened the way into the Holy of Holies,
He was "rent" that we might find free access to God (Exodus 26:33;
Mark 15:38; Heb.10:20).
THE PASSOVER: ..typical
of Christ, our Passover Lamb. (Exodus 12: 1 Cor.5:7).
THE OFFERINGS: are types of Christ Jesus who
satisfies each and every requirement of the Lord God,
......................................He
meets perfectly every need of ours for salvation.
THE MEAL OFFERING is typical of His unblemished
life;
The BURNT, PEACE, SIN and TRESPASS OFFERINGS
represent various aspects of Christ's death for us,
in our place. We can only go deeply into two of these here,
I suggest the book by A. J. Pollock as he goes into all the offerings
in depth:
1. The Trespass Offering.
Read Leviticus 5;1-19. See the Law of this offering in Lev.7:1-7.
This is a type of Christ atoning for the injury of sin. It has more to
do with the injury, than the guilt of sin, this is the sin-offering aspect.
What is actually due to GOD as a right, in every human being. Note Psalm
51:3,4 for an expression of this.
GOD begins at the Burnt Offering, which is the highest order of offering, the highest aspect is typified there - an ATONING death, for the guilt and punishment of sin. The SINNER begins, in his experience, with the Trespass Offering, with the sinner's need. The Burnt Offering expresses God's own glory, not the sinner's need, but of course, a part of God's glory is that He meets the sinner's need of mercy, forgiveness and vicarious suffering of another.
Here the excellent notes of Pollock help our understanding:
In the Burnt Offering there was the laying on of hands. This was to identify the offerer with the offering. It meant that all the merit of the Sacrifice was transferred in type to the one who offered it. The offering was accepted by God, then so was the offerer. Compare the words of Ephesians 1:6 here. we are accepted in the BELOVED, who is our representative, so we are beloved by God as well - in Him. All that was burned in the Burnt Offering went up as a "sweet savour to God."
WHY "BURNT"?
The most beautiful type of Christ can be understood in two Images concepts.
1. The word for burning which we saw above typifies the ascending fragrance which only comes through burning, the smoke rising to God, the suffering of Christ given paramountly for the Lord God's sake. Christ died because He carried the Will of God in the matter. It is like the burning of holy incense, fragrance ascending, not going out to the world per se.
2. The second concept of the burnt offering is seen in the offerer, it carries with it the acceptance of the offerer, who is identified with it. Christ is the offerer in our stead, and would have been accepted in His offering of Himself, because it glorified God, even if no sinner ever took the offer of mercy, no sinner ever was saved. It was primarily Christ's devotedness to the Will of God that was the delight of the heart of God in His Sacrifice.
The head of the sacrifice was burned on the Altar, yet the blood was wrung out at the side of the Altar. Showing that nothing but Blood would meet the circumstance.
THE DAY OF ATONEMENT:
was a type of Christ our PROPITIATION, meaning to placate, to appease.
1 John 11:2. There was the slain goat. The scapegoat is a type of Christ
as the believer's substitution (II Cor.5:21).
See the ritual of the "two goats" in Leviticus 16. Christ was both
High Priest and Sacrifice.
(Heb. 9:1-14).
THE ASHES OF THE RED HEIFER:
READ Numbers 19. The Ashes of the Red Heifer have a special significance
in our day
(see notes included...if
Online access this article by clicking here),
but keep these notes as a item to dwell upon apart from your study
units.
What is this all about?
The people of Israel were to bring to Eleazar, the priest, a red heifer who had no spot or blemish, and who had never had a yoke upon her. Eleazar had to bring the heifer outside the camp, and she was slain before his face. Then he took the blood, and with his finger, he sprinkled the blood seven times directly in front of the Tabernacle of the Congregation. Showing that it was for all of the congregation.
Then the priest took the heifer and she was burned - skin, flesh, blood, dung - and Eleazar took cedar wood, scarlet and hyssop, and threw them in the burning. A clean man was then to gather the ashes of the red heifer into a clean place, where it was for the use of the whole Israelite congregation. It was for "a water of separation; it is a purification for sin" (Numbers 19:9).
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL MEANING?
There is no holiness apart from the redemptive work of Christ! The burning of every part of the red heifer, all its parts, all its beauty, even the dung, shows the very grossness of sin in the eyes of God. ALL of man must go, even his supposed goodness, not just his obvious failings. There is unsparing judgement from God on the Person of the Substitute. This Divine Substitute was without spot of sin or blemish of character, deed, action or thought. Upon Jesus Christ never came the "yoke" of sin, or its penalty for His own trespasses.
The
washing of the clothes and of the person of the defiled one sets forth
the putting out of our lives, we who have trusted the Saviour, all defiling
ways, even thoughts. We need to be personally clean before the Lord, morally,
willingly kept by the infilling of the Holy Spirit as a vessel of the Lord's
Righteousness. Separation from evil is a necessary thing in order to be
a happy, contented child of God, in harmony with the Lord. (1 John 1:3-7).

5...FEASTS & FALSE JUBILEE
RE AD2000
CHART ONE. Larkin P.159. (sample chart only send for this chart)
click here for a transcript of the small print of this chart
THE SEVEN FEASTS OF THE LORD.
Your chart on the Seven Feasts of the Lord explains quite a lot.
It would be advantageous at this point to examine it carefully, before
proceeding. This study area on the Feasts has been separated from the previous
Typology study because of its importance, in view of the Latter Day apostasy
involving The Feast of Tabernacles and Jubilee. Also there is a tendency
for Christians to keep Jewish feasts in the 1990s, which is not Scriptural
! Latter Day Rain Revival apostates
and Kingdom Now heretics
are joining with the New Age in a counterfeit keeping of the Jewish feasts.
The Feast of Tabernacles has become a global celebration of enormous proportions,
which the New Age is using to bring a false "Christ" into power, with a
false "Birthday of Jesus" in AD2000 - on New Year's eve itself, 199! Jubilee
has become a global socialistic redistribution of the world's goods and
finances, a New Age communistic delusion! Neither of the modern day representations
of these Jewish practices have anything to do with the authentic, Jewish,
religious observances.
The occult New World Order is actually using false Jewish religiosity to aid the set-up of the fake Kingdom of God.
This quote from Pollock is of interest here: "It has been said that
till a Christian can explain the seven Feasts of the Lord, the seven parables
of the Kingdom of Heaven, and the seven addresses to the Churches in Asia
as found in Revelation 2 and 3, he has not got very far in Christian knowledge.
There is no doubt that these three sevens cover an enormous extent of truth."
(Pollock... 114 "The Tabernacle's Typical Teaching").
Well, you and I may squirm at that statement, but let us take heart by covering well the seven Feasts of the Lord right now.
Leviticus 23 starts off by stating that a man must labour six days,
and then the seventh day is the Sabbath rest. Then verse 4 says "These
are the Feasts of the Lord",
and shows these seven:
The Larkin chart shows the various typical meanings of these feasts. Keep your chart beside you as you read. Note in particular these details:
1. The Passover typified Redemption at Calvary. It happened right on schedule! Christ was crucified at Passover time. (Luke 22:14 -20; Matt.26:20; Mark 14:17; John 13).
2. The Feast of Unleavened Bread typifies the need of a responsible, holy life as lived by believers because of the Passover.
3. The First Fruits typifies the Resurrection. Christ arose right on schedule with God's Plan, on the "morrow after the Sabbath." 4. The Feast of Pentecost typifies the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Church. Note the "first fruits" of the Harvest of the Church in your chart commentary. Note then the interval between the Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of Trumpets. The Feast of Pentecost happened as well in its proper time slot.
5. The Feast of Trumpets typifies the Regathering of Israel. Some today imagine that the Feast of Trumpets typifies the Rapture, but this is not strictly so. However, God cannot regather Israel until the Christian Church has been Raptured, so that the Feast of Trumpets has a lot to do with the removal of the Church. Certainly this regathering will happen right on schedule as well. The Church Age will close in God's Plan right on the timetable, then God will bring in the antitype of the Feast of Trumpets, the Regathering of Israel.
6. The Day of Atonement is NOT Calvary! The Sacrifice of Christ is indeed the Atonement, but this sacrifice was rejected by the Jews. Right at the time ordained by the Lord, the Jews will eventually accept the Messiah whom they pierced, at the end of the Tribulation (Zech. 12:10; Zech.13:1-6; Acts 1:9-11). This will be the Day of Atonement for ISRAEL.
7. Feast of Tabernacles
Note that the Feast of Tabernacles is NOT a feast for the Church
Age! All keeping of the Jewish feasts is apostasy because they were types
of what would happen in the future. The Feast of Tabernacles typifies the
Sabbatic Rest in the Millennium of the Lord for ISRAEL. A memorial which
points back to Egypt and forward to Millennial rest (See chart). Note the
various "Sabbaths" and "morrow after the Sabbath" etc on the chart.
THE JUBILEE.
Although the Jubilee is NOT a feast of the Lord, it is a festival and institution, we will include it here because of the importance Antichrist is bringing to bear on Jubilee, and its connection in AD 2000 (NWO) and with the fake Feast of Tabernacles.
The following quote from Easton's Biblical Dictionary
will help the reader understand the authentic Jubilee:
The return of the jubilee year was proclaimed by a blast of trumpets
which sounded throughout the land. There is no record in Scripture of the
actual observance of this festival, but there are numerous allusions (Isa.
5:7, 8, 9, 10; 61:1, 2; Ezek. 7:12, 13; Neh. 5:1 19; 2 Chr. 36:21) which
place it beyond a doubt that it was observed.
The advantages of this institution were manifold:
1. It would prevent the accumulation of land on the part of a
few to the detriment of the community at large.
2. It would render it impossible for any one to be born to absolute
poverty, since every one had his hereditary land.
3. It would preclude those inequalities which are produced by
extremes of riches and poverty, and which make one man domineer over another.
4. It would utterly do away with slavery.
5. It would afford a fresh opportunity to those who were reduced
by adverse circumstances to begin again their career of industry in the
patrimony which they had temporarily forfeited.
6. It would periodically rectify the disorders which crept into
the state in the course of time, preclude the division of the people into
nobles and plebeians, and preserve the theocracy inviolate." (End of
quote).
We can already see the results of the fake Jubilee happening right now. Seizure of forests and lands; the State control of housing, and services; bankrupting of the rich nations, with a pretence of so doing that the poorer countries might share the wealth of the West; giving the indigenous peoples "rights" and "native title" so that vast pockets of land are taken from the control of the white power structures etc. The full implementation of the NWO "jubilee" is planned for early in AD2000. Already the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, the World Parliament of Religions, the New Agers and the Kingdom Now Dominionists are announcing this NWO Jubilee. Beware, it is not God's Jewish Jubilee at all!

THE FEASTS IN GREATER DEPTH.
The Passover:
We need never doubt that this feast was typical, the New Testament
makes it perfectly plain (1 Cor.5:7). The Jews commemorated the Passover
night in Egypt (Exodus 12:13) with the Feast of Passover. God sees the
Blood and this satisfies the Holiness of God, both OT and NT. The Passover
STARTED the Jewish calendar, which typifies that God can only begin a relationship
with His people on the ground of redemption through the shedding of Blood.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread:
This feast flowed out from the Passover, as its consequence. It
followed straight on from Passover, but it was not the same, it was very
different. It speaks of sanctification, not justification. Passover is
freely given Grace on account of the Blood, Unleavened Bread is fellowship
with God because of Moral Suitability. In other words, we cannot be filled
with the joy of the Lord, and live happily with Him, if we are living immoral
lives.
Passover is GOD acting in Grace towards His people; Unleavened Bread is the response of those people, THEIR answer to such Amazing Grace, as they live in practical righteousness in every day life on earth. If we look at 1 Cor. 5:7,8 we can see the connection between these two feasts in antitypical enlargement. Note the word "THEREFORE" in those verses. Here is our Church Age application of those two connected feasts.
Christ is our Passover, and we must live without "leaven". "Leaven" is the type of evil, it has to be excluded from the believer's life (Heb.12;14). The Feast of Unleavened Bread lasted seven days, the whole week. Which typifies that we must live the whole of our lives down here in practical responsibility towards God. The eighth day leads to the Sabbath of God's rest, that is the Eternal State of the Almighty when he will be All in All.
The Feast of the Firstfruits:
Leviticus 23:9-14 should be compared with 1 Cor. 15:23, in the NT
section on the orders of the resurrections. The feast of Firstfruits is
typical of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but also "them that are Christ's
at His coming." (1 Thess.4:13-18).The words "And the Lord spake unto Moses,
saying" (V 9) mark a new section in Leviticus. Note the words "On the morrow
after the Sabbath"
(V 11) and "unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath" (v 16). Always
remember that the Sabbath is the great sign day of Judaism, never of Christianity.
All the feasts circled around the Sabbath. But the "day after the Sabbath"
or the first day of the week is connected with CHRISTIANITY!
We can see wonderful things here, to do with resurrection, the worship
of God on the first day of the week, and the changes in this Church Age.
1. The unbelieving Jews still celebrate the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week. But on the "first day of the week" the Christian disciples "came together to break bread" (Acts 20:7). As we do today.
2. What great event happened on the first day of the week, which is to do with the Feast of Firstfruits. Why? the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead and triumphed over death, Satan, sin and hell. The first day was called the Lord's Day (Rev.1:10).
3. The Firstfruits was to do with the harvest! The harvest in the OT was a type of the harvest of Grace in the NT. Jesus Christ said wonderful words about the harvest of Grace, note the verses in John 4, in particular verses 29, 35, 36. When the Jewish harvest was brought from the fields, a Sheaf of the Firstfruits was brought to the priest, and his work was to wave it before the Lord God. When? On "the morrow after the Sabbath."
4. The wonder of the Sheaf of the Firstfruits is that "In CHRIST shall all be made alive" (1 Cor.15:23). Christ is the sample, just as the Sheaf was. He is the sample of the whole harvest of Grace, that harvest of which all believers in Him will take part. "If Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain; ye are yet in your sins" (1 Cor.15:17).
5. Here we can do no better than study a glorious quote from Pollock, on the resurrection and the Feast of the Firstfruits:
The word Pentecost means fiftieth, from the Greek "Pentecoste". What happened in the Church calendar, fifty days after Christ rose from the dead? We read all about it in Acts 2:1-4. On the day of Pentecost (the fiftieth day), on the "morrow after the Sabbath" on the "first day of the week", fifty days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead, a momentous event occurred which would affect the entire world. God bestowed the Holy Spirit to indwell all believers - it was the wonderful day of the birth of the Christian Church. See Ephesians 4:4 and Ephesians 5:25-27 for the wonder of it. We have a triumphant Head in Heaven, we are linked to Him and to each other. "Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but is now made manifest to His saints" (Col.1:26). The Feast of Trumpets: Some teach that this feast typifies the Rapture of the Christian Church, but this is not strictly correct. The Church has to be Raptured before the Feast of Trumpets, in God's appointed time-slot, but only because the Feast of Trumpets typifies the time of God's taking up the Jews again. The Church Age must finish BEFORE God can deal with the Chosen Nation again. It will be the closing of one dispensation and the opening of another. The closing of the Church Age and the opening of the Tribulation, or time of Jacob's Trouble.
The New Meat Offering of Leviticus 23 has not been dealt with in this study, however it is a tremendous study in typology. The New Meat Offering deals with the Jew and the Gentile together, composing the Church in Jesus Christ. Now we go to the Feast of Trumpets which shows God taking up the nation of the Jews alone.
Lev.27:24 says:
The Day of Atonement:
Ten days after the Feast of Trumpets the Great Day of Atonement
was celebrated. This is a tremendous type, which we will look at carefully.
It has nothing to do with the Christian Church, but typifies the time when
the Jewish people will finally accept their Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.
This will happen right at the end of the Tribulation period of seven years.
All classes of the Jews will take part in a great humiliation together, as they realise that they crucified the Lord of Glory. Even wives and husbands will humble themselves before the Lord APART! Zechariah 12:12 tells the amazing story, and scholars have shown just what classes are to be involved here: "The family of the house of David apart. and their wives apart (the Kingly family); the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart (the Prophetic family); the family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart (the Priestly family); the family of Shimei (Numbers 3:18) apart, and their wives apart (the Levitical family)."
In that time the Feast of Atonement will be celebrated as it has never been before in all history. The Jews will know what it really means, they will understand the Messiah's work of Blood Atonement done on the Cross of Calvary. They will know that now that risen Saviour will set up a New World Order of peace and justice - the real one! Let us look at the life from the dead which Romans 11:15 shows: "If the casting away of them (the Jewish nation as a world government) be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?" (Isaiah 26:16-19).
The Feast of Tabernacles:
Fifteen days after the Feast of Trumpets, five days after the Great
Day of Atonement, the Feast of Tabernacles took place. That Christians
do not understand the Feast of Tabernacles today is often very clear. Many
today celebrate this Jewish feast, without understanding at all what it
typifies. This feast is NOT for today, it is typical of the Millennium,
the thousand year reign of Christ in the real New World Order.
It is all about a glorious wind-up of the Almighty's dealing with Israel, has nothing to do with the Christian Church in the Church Age. The Biblical prophecy to do with Israel never goes beyond the Millennial Reign. Why is this? Because God will bring in a new heavens and a new earth in the Eternal Age, and the Jewish Nation, the earthly people of God, will not reign on the earth after the Millennium. See Isaiah 65:17.
During the OT Feast of Tabernacles, which actually took place at the END of the Harvest, the Israelites by birth dwelt in booths to bring to mind how God had saved them out of the land of Egypt. This typifies that even in the glories of the Millennial Reign of Christ, when paradise is restored to earth, the redeemed should not forget from what pit they had been rescued. The redeemed are at ease in the Reign of the Messiah, but they are only sinners saved by Grace, out of "Egypt."
"The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).
"Follow...holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Heb.12:14).
