When Jesus walked as a man on earth He worked many miracles!
What is a “miracle” really? It is a happening that would be impossible in just ordinary life. Jesus was no ordinary man. He was God come in the body of a man. He was the God-man. Jesus Christ brought the dead back to life, He healed sick people, He made the blind able to see. He made people who were not able to walk around get up and walk again! So many miracles, so many wonderful things. He gave people food when there wasn’t any, stopped storms, cast evil demons out of people, and gave fishermen huge catches of fish in their nets. The Lord did all these wonderful things so that men and women and boys and girls could stop suffering. He was a man who so deeply loved others. He had another reason why He worked miracles. He did it to show that He was truly God come in the flesh of man.
Here is one of the thrilling miracles that Jesus Christ did.
He turned plain old water into wine! It happened this way:
“And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: [ Jesus’ mother was Mary ].
And both Jesus was called, and his dis-ciples, to the marriage.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith [ said ] unto him, They have no wine.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. [ Jesus was not being rude to His mother. He was saying that His time to show Himself as the Son of God had not come yet ].
His mother saith unto the servants, What-so-ever he saith unto you, do it.
[ But Mary knew that her son was filled with the glory of God. So she didn’t give up hope that He would help ].
And there were set there six water-pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying
[ cleansing ] of the Jews, containing two or three firkins [ measure-ments ] apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the water-pots
with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
And he saith unto them, Draw out now [ get some out ], and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it [ took it to the man in charge of the food ].
[ WATCH what happens! The water is now turned to wine! ]
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was [ where it came from ] : (but the servants which drew the water knew) the governor of the feast called the bride-groom,
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. [ The wine Jesus made was much better than the other wine!
The man in charge of the feast couldn’t understand why it hadn’t been brought out before!]
This beginning of miracles [ the first miracle Jesus did ] did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and mani-fested forth his glory [ showed that He was filled with the glory of God ]; and his disciples believed on him.” (John 2:1-11).
It was a wonderful miracle to turn ordinary water into beautiful
But Jesus Christ does far more wonderful miracles every day.
He turns sinful men and women, boys and girls, into new creatures!
He gives them New Life and the Holy Spirit to live in them forever.
What a miracle that is.
“And I [ Jesus ] give unto them eternal
life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out
of my hand.” ( John 10:28).
