Getting to know
God together.

There was once a little man who people didn’t like at all.  He was a man who collected the tax ( a pub-li-can-us ). He was a very rich man because his job was important. He lived at Jericho and that city ex-ported lots of balsam, which made the little man wealthy! But he was selfish and greedy, and he didn’t care if he cheated the people. That is why he was dis-liked. Well, Jesus came to Jericho and a thrilling thing happened to Zacchaeus. Let’s look at what the Bible tells us:

“And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
And, behold, there was a man named Zacc-hae-us, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
And he sought [ wanted ] to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press
[ the crowds ], because he was little of stature [ he was short ].
And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide [ stay ] at thy house.
And he made haste [ hurried ], and came down, and received him joyfully [ he was thrilled and very happy ].
And when they [ the people ] saw it, they all mur-mur-ed [ complained ], saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation
[ lying ], I restore him fourfold [ I will give him four times as much ].
And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, for-so-much as he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
( Luke 19:1-10).

Can you imagine an important rich man climbing up a tree to try to see Jesus?
Jesus looked up into the tree, and could tell right away what was in the heart of Zacchaeus. Jesus knew that he wanted to be saved from his sin. Instead of being glad, people complained and were a bit jealous I’m sure. But the little man didn’t take any notice, he was so delighted to be with Jesus. The Lord gave Zacchaeus a new life and made him into a good man. And the little man gave away lots of his money to poor people. And he gave four times as much to those whom he had cheated. At Jericho today there is still a tower called “The House of Zacchaeus.”

Today when Jesus gives new life to anyone it is a miracle from God! He doesn’t just change our minds about sinning, He fills us with the God-kind of Life that He has got Himself. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside the person, and they are new creatures altogether. That has happened to me. I have been “born again.” I hope you have come to Jesus to get new life too. That new life in Jesus is Eternal Life, that means it can never die. Only the new life that Jesus gives can go to Heaven.

The Lord Jesus wants born again men and women, boys and girls, to live different lives because they are saved. They must not live like others around them that are not new in Him. Jesus wants you and I to let Him make us un-selfish, loving, generous, caring and kind. We can’t change ourselves, but Jesus can and will. Ask Him to fill you with God’s Holy Spirit every day, and you will have God’s “fruit” of goodness in your life too!

“ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentle-ness, good-ness, faith,  Meek-ness [ humble ], temper-ance [ self-control ]:”
( Galatians 5:22,23).

Bye now, lambs of God.
See you again tomorrow.
