MY POOR BLACK CAT..
.
My black cat, Ebony, is very old. If she was a human being she would be about 98 years of age! We look after her carefully because she is not quite the cat she once was, and canít jump as well as she did when she was young. Yesterday she was lying in a nest of dry grass on the lawn enjoying the autumn sun. I heard a horrible cat scream , and a dog growling, and I rushed outside. A big black dog ran away through the fence - and I couldnít find poor Ebony. I looked and looked and finally found her on the shed roof. How she jumped up there I donít know! Later she came down, and we could see she had been badly bitten on her left back leg, on the big muscle. Skin was hanging off and fur was gone. Poor Ebony, we made a bed for her on the front verandah.

What a fright our old cat must have gotten when the great black dog came snarling at her. She would feel so frightened and weak and helpless. She might have been very badly injured if I hadnít come to her rescue. Today she is a lot better, and has gone outside again to find a place to rest up for the day. I will get wire and mend the hole in the fence to make sure that awful dog canít get in again. We gave Ebony special pieces of crab meat we had in the fridge last night, and made sure she had milk to drink. That made her feel loved, safe and cared for.

Cats and dogs donít know about God, they canít pray and never realise that God is there. They have no spirits like humans beings have.  Before the Fall of Sin in the Garden of Eden God made humans to have fellowship with Him. Humans are not just animals, we were made in Godís own image. To my cat Ebony, and other pets, humans who love them are like God. They are there to protect them, feed them, chase the enemy away, fix them up when they get hurt, take away the need to struggle to care for themselves. Humans who care are like God to pets because they comfort them and make them safe. Once we came home from holiday and found that a vicious dog had come in and eaten some fluffy chooks in our yard. Our cats were very glad to see us come back, they had been badly frightened and were meowing loudly when we arrived.

God is all the things that humans should be to pets ( some people are NOT good pet owners, however). But God is much more to us, because He knows everything, even before it happens. And God can plan our lives with no one who can interfere and change Godís will! If I had known that the black dog was going to break in the hole in our fence, I would have taken old Ebony inside before he arrived. Or mended the hole! But I donít know everything before it happens. I am not God, I am only a person. I would never have let that dog rip open my catís leg, or let the other dog kill our fluffy chooks either - if I had all the power in the universe! But I donít have that power because I am not God, I am just a human person.

The Lord loves you, and wants to care for you.  He is the mightiest Friend that anyone could ever have. How important it is to really get to know Him, and trust Him for everything in your life. He sometimes allows hard events to happen to us, but only so we can grow in faith and love. We let our animals down by not keeping our fences mended. God never lets down any one who trust in Him!

Here are just some of His wonderful promises about caring for YOU:
ďFor I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.Ē ( Isaiah 41:13).

ď... for he [ God ] hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee  [ not give up
on you ].  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.Ē  ( Hebrews 13:5,6).

ďCasting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.Ē ( 1 Peter 5:7).
This means NOT carrying around all your problems and worries yourself! It means God wants you to tell Him about your troubles, and trust Him to help you and care for you! He is far more to you than I am to old Ebony, thatís for sure.
