Getting to know
God together.

Unbelieving people often like to rubbish the Bible!
Have you noticed that?
Christians kids have NO reason to believe that God’s Word cannot be trusted.
Although some smarty pants people might try to make you think the Bible makes mistakes.
It doesn’t! It is good for Christians kids to have the answers for critics!
Some “mistakes” unbelievers like to point out are about “how long was Jesus in the tomb?”
A tomb is the place where a dead body is put.
Not a grave, but a small rock room, or a cave.
Well, what do these people say are the mistakes?

The Bible says in Matthew 12:40 this:
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

(Matthew 12:40). ( Three days and three NIGHTS!)
Jonas is Jonah, his name was in Greek in the New Testament.
You remember the big fish who swallowed Jonah?

Then in 1 Corinthians 15:4 it says this:
“And he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
( Three days, but no three nights.)
But Jesus should have been in the tomb three days and three nights. Right?

Put your thinking caps on for this one!
The Bible seems to say something different in these two places.
How could Jesus be in the tomb three days and three nights,
and rise from the dead on the third day [no third night]?
There would have be no third night if the scripture in 1 Corinthians is correct?
Can you see that? Is there an answer for this?
The smarty pants people would say, “NO!”
They would say the Bible doesn’t know what it is talking about.

1. The book of Matthew is written for the Jews and Corinthians is written for those who are not Jews.
They are called “Gentiles” in the Bible. if you are not a Jew you are a Gentile.

2. The JEWISH day started at sun-down and it finished at the following sun-down - from 6pm to 6 pm.

3. The Gentile Day is from 12 midnight to 12 midnight.

4. Christ died before sun-down and was put in the tomb that evening, His soul went to Paradise “this day”
(Luke 23:43).

5. Jesus Christ died on a Wednesday and was in the grave all the Jewish Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Then He rose from the dead after 6pm on the Saturday evening, which was the Jewish Sunday.
He was in the tomb 3 days and nights in Jewish time.

6. Jesus was in the tomb Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday in GENTILE time.
And He rose on the 3rd day in Gentile time.
I hope this didn’t rattle your brains! Have a go at discussing this with an adult if you have problems.
We can sure trust the Bible, it never makes mistakes or con-tra-dicts itself.
Praise the Lord! Here is a wonderful verse about how much Christ’s
death and re-sur-rec-tion means to us all:

“For since by man came death [ that man was Adam ], by man [ that man is Christ ] came also the re-sur-rec-tion of the dead.   For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”
( 1 Corinthians 15: 21,22).
