Getting to know
God together.

How about Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus?
Did she know that the child that would be born to her would
be the most special baby ever born?
Yes, she did. She had to spend time just like any  mother getting ready for the new baby. She could see the changes happening in her body, and must have felt so honoured to be Jesus’ mother-to-be. We have a new baby in the family at the moment. His parents have been through quite a lot of prep-ar-ation for his birth, just as Mary and her husband Joseph would have experienced.
Our new baby is gorgeous! Soft and sleepy and so lovely to cuddle -
a bit of a wriggler though.

Well, when did Mary know she was going to have Jesus, and who told her?
We will go back before the baby was even being formed inside Mary’s body:

The Bible tells us the wonderful story:
“ And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,  To a virgin [ a vir-tuous un-married lady ] espoused  [engaged ] to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail [ greetings ],
thou that art highly favoured [ given great blessing and honour by the Lord ],
the Lord is with thee: blessed art [ are ] thou among women.
And when she saw him, she was troubled
[ worried ] at his saying, and cast in her mind [ wondered ]
what manner of salutation
[ greeting ] this should be.  And the angel said unto her,
Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb [ become pregnant ], and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? [ she wasn’t even married yet ]  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest [ God Almighty ] shall over-shadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.  ....  And Mary said, Behold the hand-maid [ the lady servant ] of the Lord; be it unto me accord-ing to thy word. And the angel departed [went away ] from her.”  (Luke 1: 26-28).

WOW!  What a way to find out that she was going to be a mother!
And the great and mighty angel Gabriel came to tell Mary too!

Who is this “Gabriel?”
These are a few of the things we know about him:
Gabriel  is a mighty angel who is a champion of God!
He was sent to Daniel  (8:16) to explain Daniel’s astonishing vision of the ram and the he-goat, and to explain very important prophecy. “Prophecy” is news about the future before it happens. (Daniel 9:21-27).
Gabriel also told about  the birth of John the Baptist  (Luke 1:11) -
John the Baptist was a most important messenger of God.
Gabriel said a thrilling thing about himself.
He said:
"I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God." ( Luke 1:19).
He must have a very special place of honour in Heaven -
right near God the Father.

See you tomorrow for more exciting things about Jesus being born.
