Getting to know
God together.

The twins, Zachary and Nardia, were on a youth camp. There was a camp fire every night, and they cooked sausages and chops on it. The best time of all was when the fflames burned down really low, and all that was left were glowing coals. The kids could all see the stars better then. The sky was so beautiful, with the stars like shining little balls of light - millions of them! One night they stayed by the fire in their sleeping bags, and didn’t go into the tents at all. Zachary and Nardia woke up before dawn, the birds were beginning to make their calls to each other.  It had been very, very dark, and then the horizon started to get pink, then light orange and really red orange - and the Light came! The sun peeped out from behind the mountains, and the sky was filled with Light. What a difference to everything in the bush - colours and shapes all visible again. The birds were delighted too, and warbled and sang with all their hearts.
How glad they were to see the light come back.

Jesus was the Light coming into our world. That baby born at Bethlehem
brought Light for our spirits and our minds. Before Jesus Christ came it was as though the world was always in darkness, with just a few stars of God’s Truth to light the way. The Lord didn’t want any of us to suffer or be in darkness. So He became a man, and lived here with us.
This is what the Bible tells us:
“ For God, who command-ed the light to shine out of dark-ness, hath [ has ] shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the know-ledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”  (II Corinthians 4:6).
Jesus is the Light of the world:
“ Then spake [ spoke ] Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
(John 8:12).

Could Joseph and Mary see the light of God
in the face of that tiny baby nestling in the hay?
It doesn’t say so in the Bible, but I am sure they would have seen that their baby had a face of pure holiness.  The wise men certainly knew that God had come in Jesus - they worshipped Jesus. They gave the little child three gifts, as we saw before.

But what did their gifts mean?
Why were they special presents?

Well, the wise men were saying important things
when they gave those presents to Jesus:
1. They gave the child Jesus gold -
that was to show He was God, the King of Heaven;
2. They gave Jesus frank-in-cense. This was lovely perfume, an incense, which has a glorious aroma when it is burned. This has a important meaning. It shows that Jesus was human;
3. They gave Jesus myrrh. This is the gum or white liquid stuff that flows from a tree something like the acacia tree, found in Africa and Arabia. It stands for the suffering of Jesus.  Mrryh was used to anoint or “oil” bodies.

In the Old Testament there is a “prophecy” about the special One of God being brought out of Egypt. It is in Numbers 24:8, and also in Hosea 11:1. Yet, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and lived as child and young man in Nazareth??? But Jesus DID go to Egypt to live for awhile, because of the danger of King Herod. Did you read about that yourself in your Bible? In Matthew 2:12-15?
Remember that a “prophecy “ is a message given about an event before it happens. I will tell you more tomorrow.
Did you read about another angel coming to warn Joseph?
God’s prophecy about Jesus being in Egypt:
“ When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son [ Jesus ] out of Egypt. “ (Hosea 11:1).
