Getting to know God together.

GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Nardia and Zach were frightened! They had heard on the tele news about thieves breaking into houses - right in their own suburb! They couldn’t sleep at night thinking maybe one would come to their home too. It went on for some days, and nights, this awful scared feeling inside. Zachary pretended to be strong and brave for his sister’s sake, but he was upset inside anyway. One night, when they were in bed, a noise on the roof gave them an awful shock! It sounded just like a man walking over the top of the house. Nardia ran into Zach’s room in a blue fit. She switched on the light. Then the noise came again, and this time both the twins screamed!
They got under the blankets shaking with fright.

Dad came in rubbing his eyes from sleep.

“What ever is going on.
Why are you under the blankets.
Dear me, you guys are as white as ghosts.”
The twins were glad their Dad was there, but they were still afraid.
Maybe the crook would break in and shoot Dad, or something awful!
Then the walking noise came again, much loudly.
“It’s a crook on the roof, Dad.
You had better get a knife from the kitchen, or a cricket bat,”
whispered Nardia, holding onto his waist tightly.
Dad put his arms around her, and said,
“Hey, don’t be afraid twins, that is not a man on the roof,
it is just a possum. Really it is. Come out and we will look at it.”
Well, the twins were most re-luc-tant to do that, it was dark outside.
But Dad insisted. So they went out with a torch, and looked up at the roof.
There was the sweetest possum [you call them O'Possums I think] they had ever seen, staring at them with his big pop-eyes. The twins laughed, fancy being so afraid of that little fella. Then Dad turned off the torch and they looked up at the beautiful full moon. What a delight, just to stand and gaze at God’s night sky, sparkling with stars.

Lots of things we get afraid of never happen!
Even kids can spend their time being afraid of all sorts of stuff.
They think their Dad or Mum might get sick and die, or that someone will attack them when they are coming home from school. Or they might imagine that a war will come to their country. All sorts of things can make us afraid. Do you know most things we fear never happen at all! Jesus Christ is our Saviour, and He will keep us safe all the time. Nothing can come into the life of a child who is trusting and obeying God, unless the Lord allows it. He might allow suffering things to come sometimes, because He has His own plan for our lives. We have to learn to trust Him when things are going wrong. But God will always carry us through. This is what trusting Him is all about. Here are some wonderful promises from your God Who cannot lie, and would never lie to you:

“He that dwell-eth in the secret place of the most High shall abide
[ live ] under the shadow of the Almighty.”
The secret place is the place of trust and prayer.
When we trust God and live in His Presence, He is always close to us to care for us.

“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.”
God is like a place of protection and a safe-house from all enemies.
You can trust Him when you are afraid.

“He shall cover thee with his feathers,
and under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler [small shield].”
God is pictured here like a mother hen keeping her chickens safe.
God’s Truth is like having armour on, and having a shield against the wicked world.

 “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
nor for the arrow that flieth by day;”
No terror of the night should frighten you, because God is with you. And no danger in the day -time should upset you either. God is your powerful Helper.

“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge [ safe-place ],
even the most High, thy hab-i-ta-tion [ place where you live ];
There shall no evil be-fall thee [ you ], ... For he shall give his angels charge over thee [you ], to keep thee [ you ] in all thy ways.”
The Lord is your safe-place, and you must learn to know Him better and learn to trust Him all the time. Talk to Him in prayer, He loves you so very much. He has given His angels to look after you, and He will keep you safe in all the areas of your life. So don’t be afraid.  How great to have the most powerful One in the universe as your own personal Friend and loving Father.  (Psalm 91:11).

( Your devotions have come late this week. I have been unable to do them some days. So the next two days you will get them instead. ‘Bye for now).
