Getting to know God together.

All the family and their friends were going to a music-al evening. The high school was putting it on. Adults as well as kids were giving items. Jarad and Kyle planned on playing together. Jarad could play the piano and Kyle played the guitar. They were not bad at it. Tahnee and Nardia were going to sing a duet. Everyone had been practising for days.

At last it was the concert night! It was a great success. Even Mrs Evans, the school principal, sang a number. The only item that wasn’t so good was the band! There were four boys and two girls. They played guitars, drums and a key-board so loudly that people were putting their hands over their ears! The sounds weren’t like music at all, just a lot of bashing and yells. “I like music that is beautiful, don’t you?” Nardia said to Zach aferwards, “not that stuff that bursts your ears-drums!”

Is music something that people invented?
No, music is a gift from God, and we make up our own songs because music is already there. There is a lovely verse about the beginning of the universe, and God tells us about the music that was going on. It is about stars and angels, singing together with great happiness. Those “stars” were most likely angels!
This was when God was creat-ing the found-ations of the universe and the world:
“Whereupon are the found-ations there-of fasten-ed? or who laid the corner stone there-of;  When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? “ ( Job 38: 6-7).

There is a wonderful song that the Jews sang when God saved them from being slaves in Egypt, long ago. Miriam and Moses made up that song.
It has pretty marvellous words.
I have sung this song in church:
“Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumph-ed glorious-ly: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation...” ( Exodus 15: 1-2).

When we sing lovely songs about God, or praise Him in music, lots of good things happen.
The Bible tells us about this:

There are no musical notes in the Bible, only the words of songs. But there are lots of songs  in the Bible, the Psalms are songs. There is a special song in our hearts when we are saved and trust Jesus as our Saviour ( Colossians 3:16).
Our hearts sing when we are filled with the Holy Spirit:
“...but be filled with the Spirit;  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; “
( Ephesians 5:18-19).

Do you know there will be a very special NEW SONG in heaven?
It will be for all those who are God’s saved people, His Re-deem-ed.
Here is what the Bible tells us about that song:
“...the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb [ Jesus Christ ] having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.  And they sung a NEW SONG, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals there-of: for thou wast slain [ killed ], and hast redeem-ed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;  “
( Revelation 5: 8-9).
