Getting to know God together.

My cats boss me around!
They come to the back door and start their demands! Ebony, Fluffy Dax and Ginger Tom always have stuff they want me to do. They come in and tell me that they want a drink of milk - just when I am busy fixing a meal. They want to get in the back door because one of them has caught a mouse. When they get a mouse they want to bring it onto the door-mat to eat! Yuck!  Fluffy Dax bosses me at night when I am sitting watching the news. She wants to sit on my lap for ages, being stroked and fussed over. Do I do it, sure I do! I am bossed around.  Ebony and Ginger Tom always want to get into the house very early in the morning. They bang on my bedroom window, or the back door. I get up all dreamy-eyed and let them in - often! Why do I do it? I am bossed by my pussies. Do you know I even open doors for them? They will wait for me to push the screen door open, I guess they don’t like to push it with their noses, it sometimes comes back and bangs them. Oh dear, I guess I love them. Spoiled things.

In the big things of life we have to be very careful indeed who we let boss us around! The Lord God should be the One Who you obey, and He is never a big boss, He is just kindness and love. We should be careful of who we make our companions in life. Other kids can be bossy and could even spoil your whole life, if you let them. I know a boy who let bad companions lead him into bad ways. He did what they said, and disobeyed God because he did so. He ended up taking drugs when he was only quite young. Now  he is much better, and back to God. Some bad kids are strong persons. Other kids take notice of them and do what they say. Do you know some bosses like that? They are the ones who do all the ordering around. But God does not want you to follow other kids who might lead you into bad ways:
“For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh know-ledge and under-standing.” (Proverbs 2:6).

God gives us good under-standing in His Word. One book of the Bible that has lots of instruction in living in good ways is the book of Proverbs. It is found in the Old Testament. It talks about bad companions who ruin the lives of foolish people. Here is one verse about evil people who are “froward.” What a strange word “froward” is. What does it mean? It means “crooked.” People who are crooks:

“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh know-ledge and under-standing.
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler [ God protects ] to them that walk up-rightly [ obey God ].
He keep-eth the paths of judgment, and preserv-eth the way of his saints.
Then shalt thou under-stand right-eous-ness [ good living ], and judgment, and equity [ justice ] ; yea, every good path.
 When wisdom enter-eth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion [ sense and good choices ] shall preserve thee [ keep you safe ], under-standing shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man [ or bad companions, even kids ], from the man [ or kid ] that speak-eth froward [ crooked ] things;
Who leave the paths of up-rightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the froward-ness [ crooked ways ] of the wicked; ”  ( Proverbs 2: 6-14).

Don’t let other kids lead you into bad ways! It takes a strong person to say “no!” to “froward” crooks. You are not a weak “goody goody” when you won’t do what they say. You are being strong in the Lord!
