Getting to know God together.

Jarad and Kyle had new neighbours!
The day that they moved in was nice and sunny.
A furniture van arrived next door early on Friday morning, and the men started moving things into the house. The boys could hardly wait to see if any children were part of the family. Finally the family car pulled up next door, and out got the parents and three kids. Two boys about Jarad and Kyle’s age, and a smaller girl. But one thing was a bit of a shock, the whole family was black skinned. They were Australian aboriginals! Jarad and Kyle rushed to their parents to tell them.
“Mum, Dad, hey, there are going to be kids next door - but they are black!
What are they doing there! The Collins family lived there before -
and they weren’t black. How come black people live next door to us! “

Jarad and Kyle’s parents had quite a job calming them down.
Dad said,
“Don’t be upset, those people are just the same as we are. They just look a bit different. They might have some different ways of doing things, even speak a bit different, but they are just the same inside. God has made them to be able to have spiritual fellow-ship with Him. They were made for God, just like all people have been.”
The boys went next door later that day and took a cake Mum had made.
A lady came to the door. Jarad said,
“Welcome to the neighbour-hood. Mum sent this over for you.”
The lady smiled and thanked them.
Next day the boys saw the new boys from next door playing ball in a park near by, so they went up to them.
“Hi, we live next door to you. My name is Jarad and this is my brother Kyle.”
And soon they were all playing ball together.
The new boys were called Matthew and Tom.

That night Kyle asked God about the different races.
“Where did different races come from Dad?
We aren’t all the same on this earth.
We couldn’t have come from the same great, great. great, great - what-ever -grand-parents! Other-wise we would look the same.
Where did different races come from !”  (Kyle thought a lot about things like that ).
So of course Dad went and got his Bible to show the boys about that.
Christian families know that God’s Word has the answers which are true.
Dad has a good Bible-help book called a “com-men-tary” which helped as well.
The first thing they found out was that all the races did  come from the same common parents - even though they have different coloured skins!

There was only one family left after the Great Flood, and that was Noah’s family.
So all the people on the earth today must have come from Noah’s sons.
Their names were Shem, Ham and Japheth. That means that we are all related -
way, way back. In Genesis 9:7 they read that after the Flood in Noah’s day God said,

“And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; and bring forth abun-dant-ly
[ have lots of children ] in the earth, and multiply there-in.”

God wanted the earth full again of people.
Today there seems to be several major “races” of people - probably about six.
There are 150 or so nations which are major. There are over 3,000 tribal languages. But all these people came from the same ancestors - the same great, great, great - what-ever- grand-parents - Noah’s three sons.
And they came from Adam and Eve before that.

We will look some more about races and peoples tomorrow.
This is what the Bible tells us, and God’s Word cannot lie:

“And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark,
were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth:
and Ham is the father of Canaan.
These are the three sons of Noah;
and of them was the whole earth over-spread
[ all the people of the earth came from them ]. “  ( Genesis 9:18,19).

The Bible tells us that we should be kind to people,
and we are not kind if we judge them by the colour of their skins:

“And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted [ having soft hearts ] ...”
( Ephesians 4:32).

More tomorrow about races and people, see you then.
