Getting to know God together.

It was an exciting time for Jarad and Kyle, finding out the treasures in God’s Word. They loved reading and looking things up with their Dad. He is a good Bible student. Dad showed them about the start of the nations of our world.

We will take a quick look too.

Our Bible has an amazing chapter which is the Table of Nations!
This chapter is Genesis chapter ten. Even scholars who are not Christian believers say that this passage is the only one in all documents from ancient times which tells us about the forming and source of the nations of our world.
A famous man who is not a believer in Jesus, a man who is the world’s leading authority on ancient matters in the Near East,
has said this about the remarkable Table of Nations:

“It stands alone in ancient lit-er-a-ture ( books and documents ) ...The Table of Nations remains an as-ton-ish-ing-ly accurate document.”
( From an article called “Recent Discoveries in Bible .”  by Dr William Albright ).

In Genesis 10 we find one link, a bridge, between nations which existed in different times. That link is the grandsons and great-grandsons of Noah.

*There were the nations which we know about
because they are shown in history.
*There were the nations which existed in times
before we have a history record of them.
*There were the nations which existed before the Great Flood.
And Noah’s grandsons and great-grandsons are the link between them all.
And we find their record in Genesis 10 in our Bible.

Who would have kept the marvellous record of the forming of the nations in Genesis 10? Well, it looks like it was a sort of family record.  Kept by an elder man of the family of Noah, long, long ago, and written down. Bible scholars tell us it was probably Shem, Noah’s youngest son, who kept the record while he was alive. He lived for 502 years after the Great Flood, and this would have enabled him to known about all the period of time in the Table of Nations. How do we know Shem lived that long after the Flood? The Bible tells us so in Genesis 11:10,11.
People lived a long time in those days, didn’t they.

All the nations of the world came out of those early peoples.
And  clever scholars have been able to trace just what nations came from what son of Noah. Maybe you will study some of these things when you are older. I hope so.

Chapter 10 of Genesis ends with these words:
“These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.”

There are seventy nations listed in Genesis 10.
There may have been more, but these were chosen to be listed.
There is a special Chosen Nation, which God will one day make the head nation of the world. That nation is Israel. The people of Israel, the Jews, often use “seventy” as a special number. You can hear about Israel today, on the television news.
These people came from Shem, Noah’s youngest son. They are “Shemites.”

Well, lambs of God, you had to get your thinking caps out for this devotion.
It is good to know how ancient and trust-worthy the Bible is.
It is a book which shows us many, many things. All about history and our world.
And the best thing of all is that it is  ALL TRUTH, and makes no mistakes.
It is truly the Word of the Lord God.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
(Psalm 119:11).

“All scripture [ the Bible words ] is given by in-spir-a-tion of God, [ it has been given to men right from the Lord God in Heaven ] ...” ( 11 Timothy 3:16).
