Joshua was a brave man
who trusted in the Lord.
He saw the Captain of
the Host,
Who was Christ Himself
before He came to earth as a man. (Joshua 513-15).
The Captain of the Host
had a sword in His hand.
He gave Joshua extra
courage.
Joshua went to the city
of Jericho with the people of Israel,
and they did an amazing
thing.
They did it because the
Lord God Almighty commanded them to.
For six days Israel’s
men of war and people marched around the city walls.
The people in the city
must have been laughing at them!
What a silly thing to
do they would think.
“Come
on and attack, if you dare! Ha, Ha!”
Marching with them were
seven priests,
carrying the special
“Ark” of Jehovah God around the city.
It was a holy box or
chest made of acacia wood.
It was covered in gold.
Over the ark were two
golden cherubim,
with their faces turned
toward each other (Lev. 162).
The Ark was always covered
when it carried.
The priests also had
seven trumpets made of rams (male sheep) horns.
Well, it must have been
some sight to see!
The priests marching
with the Ark of God.
A crowd of people going
too.
And then the priests
would blow very loud on the ram’s horns,
and the people of Israel
would give a great shout together.
Joshua told the people
when to shout out.
The soldiers went before
the Ark, looking very grand and fierce.
They marched right around
Jericho and then had a rest for the night.
It was a big city you
see.
In the morning Joshua
got up really early.
And the priests took
up the golden Ark.
And they did the same
again.
Blowing and shouting
and marching around the city walls, for six whole days.
Having rests at night
in their camp.
On the seventh day, Joshua
said a new thing.
We will march around
seven times not just once.
He then said, “We
will SHOUT! For the Lord has given you the city!”
So the people shouted
a mighty great shout,
and the priests blew
the trumpets very loud.
And do you know what
happened?
You guessed it! The city
walls fell down flat.
As though an earthquake
had flattened them.
Or an invisible space
blaster had zapped them!
The
city of Jericho was then captured, the people of Israel could
just rush in as Jericho had no walls to keep anyone out.
Read Joshua 6:20.
EXTRAS FOR TEENS AND BETWEENS
Archeologists have found
evidence that ancient Jericho once had its walls knocked flat! It is a
real historical fact. The Bible is the Truth of God
in every way.
The big lesson we can
learn is that,
God
gives spiritual victories to believers who are weak in themselves.
We
can appear foolish and to have very little might,
as far as the people
of this world think of smartness and power.
But
with God on our side, we will win the battles of life every time.
For
when we are weak, He is strong for us.

II Corinthians
10:3-5.
