Getting to know God together.

Kerrie was excited!
The neighbours were going to Holland.
They had promised to bring her back a pair of Dutch wooden shoes called clogs.
“Not ones I can wear, Mum” she explained,
“just small ones for me to put on my desk.”
Mr and Mrs Jackson would be away for three weeks.
Kerrie could hardly wait to get those clogs.

The Jacksons were back at long last !
Kerrie gave them to time to settle into their house.
Then she rushed over to get those Dutch clogs.
“Oh dear", said Mrs Jackson, “I’m sorry love, we forgot to get those!
Next time we go somewhere we bring you back something.”
Kerrie was very disappointed.
She felt so let down.
She went home and cried.

Promises! promises!
Human beings are always breaking their promises.
They “forgot” or they have “changed their minds.”
Not only people one at a time break their promises, but whole nations do as well!
One nation makes a promise to another that they will be at peace with them.
But they attack them anyway!
Even our own home nation can let us down.
Even leaders of whole countries can break promises.
“Who can trust a pol-i-tic-ian", adults often say.

I wonder if you keep your word?
I hope you do.
Have you been very disappointed by a promise being broken?
We all have.
But God is different!
When God says “I WILL - ",
nothing will ever make Him break His promises.
Nothing in heaven or earth, not forever and ever.
The Lord God can be trusted to keep every word of His,
and you know He has NEVER broken any promise in the past either.
Wonderful isn’t it? God sure can be trusted.

God promises to care for us like a shepherd cares for his little lambs. (Psalm 23:1)
And he always will - if you let Him.
Some kids just worry and fuss instead of having faith in God.
How about you?
Do you trust God to care for you?

Joshua in the Bible said this:

“Not one thing hath failed of all the good things
which the Lord your God...promised you.”
God promises to look after those who trust in Him,
and obey His Word.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart...
and he shall direct thy paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5,6).

There was a great Christian missionary called Hudson Taylor.
He sure knew God, for God took Hudson through many dangers and kept him safe.
He said this
“The future is as bright as the promises of God.”
And he was right, of course. Don’t fear what will happen in the future.
With God on your side, there is a bright future for you no matter what goes on in this world. NOTHING can separate you from God’s love.

Do you truly belong to Him?
Have you trusted His Son as your own Saviour?
Do you do the things God wants you to?
Then these wonderful promises belong to you

“What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own Son,
but delivered him up for us all,
how shall be not with him also freely give us all things?...

For I am persuaded,
that neither death,
nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:31,32,38,39).
