Getting to know God together.
It was a diary!
Mum had brought a dairy home for Barry.
And one for Rick as well.
“What will we do with them, Mum?”
They weren’t quite sure what a diary was for.
“You write down what is the most exciting or the best happening of the day.
Or write down the sad things, and how you felt about them,” Mum answered.
“It makes interesting reading later on.
Helps you to remember your life - and sort out things in your mind.”
Barry was ten, so he was more keen on the diary than his brother.
Rick was eight, and he wasn’t sure he could handle the diary stuff!
But he tried. “It is just for you to read,” Mum said, “not for sticky-beak eyes.”
It was good fun, and the boys  wrote something down almost every day.
Barry wrote often, “Thank You, Lord, because You are caring for me today.”
They were making a “record” of their days.

The Bible tells us about a wonderful book of remembering.
Perhaps there are angels who make the “record” in that book.
It is a book called “the book of remembrance.”
It records all those people’s thoughts and words
who speak about God and think about Him.
God wants to have a record of those lovely thoughts and words.
Not because He will forget, but for others to see.
He calls those who talk a lot about Him, and honour Him, “His jewels.”
You can read about that book in the Old Testament. Malachi 3:16-18.
The Bible talks about “fearing the Lord.”
It means more like honouring Him than being frightened.
A new word for you would be “awe.”
We hold God in “awe.”
Like standing high up on a mountain and looking out at a glorious scene.
We are “awed.”
That is what “fear the Lord” means.

What do you talk about?
People usually show what they are interested in by what they talk about.
Have you noticed that?
Kids might talk about television all the time.
Or they might talk about computer games, or sport.
Maybe adults talk about money a lot, and how to make it go further!
Every time you talk about the Lord God
there is a recording angel writing down those lovely words.
We all should talk about God and Jesus Christ much more.
This makes God glad and pleases Him.
Look at what the Bible says about the book of remembrance

“Then they that feared the Lord spoke often one to another
and the Lord hearkened ( took notice), and heard it,
and a book of remembrance was written before him
for them that feared the Lord,
and that thought upon his name.”
(Malachi 3:16).

EXTRAS FOR TEENS AND INBETWEENS

Alright, you are thinking, but I can’t talk about the Lord to any of my friends.
They would think I was dumb and stupid!
God will help you to not be ashamed to mention Him.
But do you talk about the Lord with any of your Christian friends?
Do you talk about the Lord God in your home with your family?
Do you ever think about Him when you are alone?
When we are vitally interested in someone or something we think and talk about them often. Get to know God really well, and you will find that thoughts about Him will fill your mind and heart. God counts every mention and thought of Him to be as precious as costly gems

“And they shall be mine,
saith the Lord of hosts,
in that day when I make up my jewels;
and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.”
