Getting to know God together.

Meg and Beth lived next door to each other. Meg was 13 and Beth was 11, so they were getting quite grown-up. “My teacher says the ‘environment’ is being spoiled,”
said Beth one day. “He says we should be giving money and working to save the planet and the rain-forests and wild animals. “ Meg thought about this for a minute, “but my pastor says people can’t make a paradise here, and things won’t be really right until Jesus comes again.” “I don’t know what a ‘paradise’ is, “said Beth, “what has that got to do with the environment?” “A paradise is a perfect place, like the Garden of Eden was, “replied Meg. “Pastor says we have to put up with lots of things not being right on the earth, because it is ‘fallen’ world.” They talked about this for awhile, but decided to ask their parents to explain more, it was just a bit confusing.

Meg and Beth were confused because the Bible tells us one thing, and television, magazine and books these days are telling us all something else. Even school teachers are telling us we should “save the environment.” Our world is not perfect today, it hasn’t been a paradise since the time when God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden! That garden was paradise, you can read about it in Genesis chapters 1-3. God says that Jesus Christ will reign on earth one day as King Jesus. And He will make a paradise again. Then all the problems of the “environment” will be made right, but can’t be before that.

(See Revelation chapter 20:4.
“...and they lived and reigned with Him a thousand years.” )
But what about the environment today?

God’s Word, the Bible, tells us such wonderful things about His plan for the earth.
Some people think they can make our earth peaceful, and end all wars, and that they can save the plant and animal life from terrible problems. But, God says in His Word that only Jesus Christ can do all those things and more - when HE comes back as King. He will make a miracle happen to this planet - what a day that will be. When Jesus Christ reigns in His own Kingdom here. But can we work to save the environment today? Not really, but of course we should be responsible to care for our lovely planet, and living creatures and forests, until Jesus comes.

When Jesus comes everyone will know about it, because He will come again in His glorious Body which can never die. We have thought about HIS beautiful world before in our devotions. Let’s look at God’s Word again and see some more about it:

1. All over the world everyone will have plenty of food, water, clothes and nice places to live in - when King Jesus comes. Who says so? GOD does, and He knows. God talks in picture language about Jesus coming. He says it will be like grass that is cut down and things are dry, and then lovely rain falls and makes it fresh and green again. And everyone on the earth will “flourish,” that means do really well and have everything they need:
“He (Jesus) shall come down like rain upon the mown (cut) grass: as showers that water the earth.
In his day (Jesus’ reign) shall the righteous (the good people who are left on earth) flourish: and abundance (lots and lots) of peace as long as the moon endureth (lasts).”
(Psalm 72:6).

2. Our earth, this planet, has suffered because mankind sinned against God. But when Jesus reigns on earth sin will not spoil the environment any longer:
“...the desert shall rejoice (be glad), and blossom as the rose.” (Isaiah 35:1).
The Bible tells us thrilling things about this earth when Jesus comes to make everything right again:
“And the parched ground (the dry desert places) shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water...[there] shall be grass with reed and rushes.”
( verse 7).
