Getting to know God together.

“Bobby! Jack is here, won’t you come out to him?
He wants you to go down to the park with him.”
Bobby was a bit annoyed at this. He was playing his favourite computer game,
“Delia the Android and the Green Slime.” “Send him up and he can sit and watch me play Delia,” he said. Jack came up the stairs growling about Bobby always playing with the Delia computer game - Bobby ignored him. He was playing with this game a lot now. It had grown on him, he was fascinated. He didn’t want to do anything else but try to get Delia out of her problems!

Delia the Android was tall and long legged. She had to go through so many traps and disasters. Sometimes when she couldn’t escape from a pit, or if the walls of a room  were coming in on her, green slime would come oozing out from everywhere - from the ceilings and the walls! Delia would come rushing along a narrow corridor, and just as she seemed to have found the way out, a trap-door would open underneath  her.  She would fall into a roaring river, then down a water-fall. Just as she seemed to be able to struggle up onto the shore, a lion would grab her in its claws!  She often wandered around in the hot desert, and Bobby couldn’t seem  to get her to the water for a drink! Bobby worked hard with his mouse, but couldn't seem to stop many of Delia’s disasters happening. He couldn’t make her get out and escape the traps. There was a good eagle in the game, but Delia was never saved by him because Bobby was always too slow! He tried on and on, every day working with Delia the Android.
Jack got sick of sitting there watching after awhile, and went home.

Bobby lay in bed that night thinking about Delia’s traps and problems. He wondered as he lay there if he was going around in circles like Delia was. Maybe he couldn't find a way out either! Is that why he was playing this Delia game all the time? He decided to talk to his Mum about it next day. But it was hard for him, and so he just went back to playing Delia again. He felt lost in the roasting  hot desert himself!

The youth pastor from the church came to dinner one night. He came in to see Bobby, and Bobby had Delia the Android game on the computer - as usual. The pastor came over and put his hand on Bobby’s shoulder. “Strange game that! The heroine never gets out of her mess, does she?” He paused and then said, “Do you feel a bit trapped too, Bobby?” Bobby felt really relieved! And he talked to the pastor about feeling trapped. “I don’t know how  to make friends and get on with other kids. I don’t seem to be very clever at school, and I am always trying to read better, but I never seem to be able to. I keep trying to have confidence but I am afraid I am not going to do well when I grow up. I am trapped - just like the Android in the game. I keep on getting green slime coming down on me! I am in a mess.”

Do you know that the pastor really understood. He helped Bobby get sorted out, and it helped so much to have the youth pastor pray with him and they both asked God to help. This was the verse they read from God’s Word. It just came up when the pastor opened the Bible. It all happened like an answer straight from God:
“ He (God) found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.  As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:  [So] the LORD alone did lead him, and [there was] no strange god with him. He made him ride on the high places of the earth...”
(Deuteronomy 32:11-13).

Bobby asked Jesus to be His Saviour that night.
He asked God to stop the Delia game from keeping him  hooked, and God did!
Bobby found that he didn’t want to play any more after he had asked God to help him. Praise God He answers our prayers!
