Getting to know God together.

Gidday, Lambs of God! I am back from my conference, I have had to rest awhile, and I am ready again to be with you. We will be looking at the most wonderful of all good news for a few days. All about that Man who was God, Jesus the LAMB of God who came to take away the sin of the world.

Our world was in a terrible mess when Jesus first came to the earth. It is in a terrible mess right now! Jesus will come back to this earth one day. Maybe sooner than we think! He will make all things right when He does. But we will get to that down the track. First, we will think about The Son of God coming the first time. Kids can get really excited about space men, and aliens and silly stories about the “supernatural.” But do you realise how thrilling the first coming of the Son of God was? This was the most amazing, exciting event that ever happened on our earth. God’s Son was born as a tiny little baby in Bethlehem. He was the Creator of the universe - yet He became a real human child who grew into a real human man.

Why did God do such a thing as to send His Son? God cared so much about the mess people were in that He did something astonishing about it. He send the Saviour, the Messiah. The baby Jesus did not have an earthly father, His Father was the Heavenly Father, not Joseph. Before Jesus was even born strange things were happening. An angel spoke to Joseph, who was going to marry the mother of Jesus, Mary. This angel said:

“And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins.”

What was this lady Mary like? Well she was only a teenager, and she wasn’t a proper married lady when Jesus was born. She is called a “virgin” because she wasn’t married, and had never had a husband. Some religions say she was the “Mother of God” but this is not actually so. God Himself had no mother, for He has always been just Himself. Mary was the mother of the earthly Son of God, Jesus. Mary was a very Godly young woman, that is why she was chosen for such a wonderful life’s work - to be Jesus’ mother. She was Jewish woman.

The coming of such a wonderful Person as the Son of God should have made everyone sit up and take notice, you would think. But Jesus had no famous people fussing after Him, He had no great fortune that He was born to inherit. He came to be just like the simple people all around, who needed Him. The first people on the earth who knew that the glorious, powerful, mighty Son of God was here on earth were just unimportant men who looked after sheep. God didn’t tell any kings or princes about the coming of Christ. God sent the angel of the Lord to those shepherds to tell them His Son had been born! The angel said to the astonished and frightened shepherds:

“ Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings (news) of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David
a Saviour (One who saves), which is Christ the Lord. “ (Luke 2:10,11).

You will surely have heard of the Three Wise Men. The Bible tells us all about them, and how they came to see Jesus. He was not a tiny babe when they finally got to see Jesus. He was a “young child.” A miraculous star showed them the way from their lands. Those who know the Bible times very well tell us that the wise men were scholars, from Arabia possibly, because they were from the land of the east (Genesis 25:6). The wise men brought special gifts because they knew the Christ child was a special One sent from God. They brought gold (for a king); frankincense (to worship God) and myrrh (because they knew He had come to die as the Saviour.)

Mary said this when she knew she would be the mother of Jesus:

“My soul doth magnify (greatly honour) the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour....” (Luke 1:46,47).
