Getting to know God together.

The twins, Jenny and James, had been to a special series of meetings with their family. They were Second Coming conventions, all about Jesus coming back to earth one day. The meetings had been pretty exciting too. There were great big charts on the wall, and all sorts of news about Israel and the nations. “Hey, it’s happening now, Jenny. Signs like Israel being back in its land again - and stuff like that.” James was all stirred up, he had really enjoyed hearing the prophecy of the Bible. They both thought about it a lot in the coming week.

Jenny was weeding the garden the next windy, cold Saturday, when a strange sound make her hair stand right on end with fright. It was like a distant trumpet blast! She found herself all upset inside, maybe it was the trumpet call that meant Jesus was coming. There it was again! She felt creepy and worried inside now. The sound went on as the wind blew harder. She sat down on the ground with her hands over her ears. Mum came out the back door. “Here Jenny, what’s wrong love, “she said, putting her arm around Jenny’s shoulder. Jenny told her all about, and about the sound of the “trumpet.” “Silly billy, “ Mum said, “I can hear that sound now, it is just the old rusty clothes line going around in the wind! Come and I will show you that that is all it is.” So they went down to the clothes lines, and sure enough it was making the weird sound Jenny had been so afraid of. It did sound a bit like a far off trumpet, though.

Mum sat Jenny down over a hot cup of cocoa, inside beside the fire. “Why are you afraid of the second coming of Jesus, honey? It is not a time for Christians to be afraid of at all.” “I guess I think maybe Jesus coming will be real strange, and I might not please Him when He gets here. I... I... tell lies sometimes ... and ... and I pulled Marion’s hair in the school bus yesterday.”  Mum was glad to get her Bible out and read wonderful words of comfort to Jenny, and here is what she read:

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; “(Titus 2:13).

“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”(Hebrews 9:28).

Jenny’s Mum said, “Jesus came the first time to save us all. The second time He comes He will save His people, His Church, from all suffering and trouble in this world. His coming is going to be the best and most glorious happening that will ever be. It is our “blessed hope.” That means we should be looking forward to His coming like we look forward to the best, most wonderful adventure you could ever imagine. He is going to take us with Him to be forever happy in heaven. Aren’t you silly to be afraid?  And God has forgiven us In Jesus for all our wrong doing - isn’t that marvellous?”

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye (you) believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions (places to live): if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you...I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye (you) may be also.” (John 14:1-3).

TOMORROW we will think more about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
