Getting
to know God together.
There was a terrible
noise in the trees at the back of our house!
I rushed out to
see dozens of birds called "Noisy Mynas"
yelling out furiously in bird language.
All of them were
dive bombing two tiny figures huddled together in the middle of a very
long, very thin branch stretched between two trees.
The little ones
were "sugar glider possums",
they looked like a mother and a baby.
They turned big
frightened eyes on me, such sweeties.
I could see that
they couldn't escape to their tree trunk home.
Well, my friend
and I weren't going to let those possums be hurt by the nasty Mynas, no
way.
We couldn't climb
up and save them so we got the hose and squirted those birds with water
and clapped our hands to frighten them as well.
We were careful
not to squirt or hurt the possums of course.
The Mynas screamed
out louder than ever and flew at us too.
It was an awful
fuss, for a long time, the Mynas kept coming back.
The possums were
swinging back and forth on the thin branch,
it really looked
as though they would fall, or the branch would break.
Glider possums can fly a bit, did you know, they have flaps of skin under their legs and body.
We had to threw
stones at the Myna birds,
until finally
they flew away and the possums were soon climbing home to their hole in
a tree.
They [ the
possums ] had not got home before daylight, from their night of feeding.
We were sure glad
to see them safe, poor darlings.
Have you seen a
glider possum in a nature book?
Maybe Mum can
find one.
We were the protectors
of those possums,
they could have
fallen to their deaths maybe if we had not helped them.
Our God is our
Heavenly Father who protects His children from danger.
He even sends
His angels to look after children, did you know that?
Have a look at
the Bible and read about your own angel whom God has given you to be your
protector.
We never
pray to angels though, they are not God.
We should only
pray to God.
"...despise
not one of these little ones (children)...
their angels
do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."
(Matthew 18;10).
[ Read verse 5 too ].
EXTRAS FOR TEENS AND BETWEENS
The
world views the high and mighty, the rich and powerful as being the important
people.
This
is not true of Jesus Christ, however.
And
He shows us the reality of how Almighty God views people on this earth.
Jesus
shows us that the most important persons in God's Kingdom are the childlike
ones.
The
humble, the gentle, those who haven't got tickets on themselves.
Don't
imagine that God is like the hugely powerful president of a country, or
a billionaire financier. They couldn't care less for the little problems
of a young person.
God
is ALL-powerful, but He values children and the young ones of this world
in a special way. So much so that He wants His born-again ones, adult or
child, to be as humble and unpretentious as a child is:
