Getting to know
God together.

Zachary and Nardia were going to a special church service!
They had never been to a baptism before, and they wondered what it would be like.
“Dad said it is going to be for ten people. All of them will be baptised. Jenny, Mrs Collins’ girl, is one of them.” Zachary was thrilled about it all.

After they sang hymns of praise at church, and after the pastor gave them his sermon, the baptism happened. The little church didn’t have a special pool at their own building, some churches do. A small swimming pool had been set-up in the grounds for the occasion. All the people filed out to the lovely lawn at the back, and under a big leafy tree the twins saw the pool. Then the pastor came out dressed in a white shirt and shorts. The ten people who were to baptised came out too, they had swim suits and shirts on, one older lady had a long, full dress on. Everyone stood around the pool while the pastor read from the Bible. He read:
“Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?  And he command-ed them to be baptized in the name of the Lord....”  (Acts 10:47,48).

Then, one by one, the ten people were put under the water by the pastor. Jenny’s turn came, she was eighteen. She held her nose as the pastor lowered her backwards under the water. He said every time he put a person under the water,
“I baptise you in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” Jenny came out of the pool and people gave her warm towels, and led her away inside to dry herself and get dressed. There were photos being taken, and even a video was made of the baptism.

What was this all about?
Perhaps you know already. Have you seen people being baptised in water?
Well, if you haven’t you will see it one day, so it is a good thing if you know what it is all about. Don’t you agree?

Baptism in water:
Christians only get baptised in water once. This is because it shows special things about being saved, and we are saved by trusting Jesus Christ just once. Water baptism is a picture of sal-va-tion.

Water baptism is one of two special events that the Christian Church holds. Can you guess the other one? It is comm-un-ion. That is when the believers drink from small cups and eat small pieces of bread. They are remembering the death of Jesus for our sin. Comm-un-ion is repeated often, but water baptism isn’t. Comm-un-ion is a picture of our fellowship with God.

Water baptism is a witness of the one being baptised. It shows to all that watch  the person’s own faith in Jesus Christ. Water baptism shows a believer going down in the water, as though they died with Jesus, and then they rise up again out of the water, which shows they have risen to new  life in Christ. They want to walk in a new life with God, leaving the old life of sin behind.
When a person really understands what Christ Jesus has done for them when He died for their sin, they should be water baptised. The Bible shows what a beautiful event this is.

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent [ change your mind about sin ], and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins [ to show your sins have been forgiven and taken away ], and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”  ( Acts 2:38).

Bye for now, lambs of God. See you again tomorrow.
