Getting to know
God together.

The Lord God’s wonderful names are shown in the Bible.
One  Name we have seen is “I AM.”
“I AM” is the same as “Je-ho-vah.”
These names both mean “self-existing.”
Hey! you might be saying, I’m a kid, I don’t know if I can understand stuff like that!
Well, it isn’t really hard. We ourselves, and all the creation around us, are here because God made All and keeps everything going - they exist by God. But God exists by Himself -
He is self-existing. Children always ask this question “ who made God?”
The answer is glorious.
No one made God, not even Himself. God was never ever made, He has always been, He is Eternal. O.K, let’s keep in mind the lovely Name which shows God is self-existing. “Jehovah” and also “I AM.”

There are lots of places in the Old Testament where the Lord is called “Jehovah” with another name added. One of those places is in the book of Exodus chapter 17.
God is called “Jehovah-nissi” there. That “nissi” word is Hebrew and it means “Banner.”
The Lord is my Banner! Now you are learning Hebrew words! You are doing well. Moses called the Lord “Jehovah-nissi” when an exciting fight went on between his army of Israel and the army of Amalek. Here is the true story right from the Bible.
Watch and see where Moses calls God “Jehovah-nissi”:

“Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed [ were better fighters ]: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed [ started to win ]. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat there-on; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands [ held them up ], the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun [ until night came ].
And Joshua dis-comfited [ attacked and got the better of ]  Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial [ so you can remember ] in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [ tell Joshua about it ]: for I will utterly put out the remembrance [ memory ] of Amalek from under heaven.
And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:”

The Lord saved Israel from their enemies.
He sure was a “Banner” for them.
He did the fighting for them. He was like a great big flag going in front of them, and it was like God was the Captain of the army.
Here is what the Bible says about God being like a Captain, going in front of us to fight our battles for us:
“God Himself is with us for our Captain” ( 11 Chron. 13:12).

We should always let God be our Banner, the One Who does the fighting for us.
God says, “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Ex. 14:14).
The biggest enemy we have is the temp-ta-tion to sin!
The Lord wants to make you strong in Himself and to make you able to say “NO!” to temp-ta-tion. When the devil knocks at  the door of your heart and says, “tell a lie” or  “get even” or “don’t obey your parents” let the Lord Jesus deal with him! He will defeat the devil, and give you a mighty victory over wrong doing. Just say, “Jesus can save me from this!” and trust Him.

The Lord Jesus can save you from all your enemies. Why don’t you let Him show you His mighty power. He can save you from worry, fear, wrong doing and unhappiness. No, God doesn’t always give us everything we think we want, He knows best.
But He can make us able to be the winning ones in every problem we face.
How do I know? He does it for me.

See you again tomorrow, lambs of God.
