Getting to know God together.

Marty was fed up! He had to always do what someone else told him to. It didn’t seem fair at all. “After all, “he moaned to his best friend Danny, “adults can just do what they like all the time. It is awful for kids, being bossed around all the time just because we are younger and smaller.” They were having a meeting in their gang hut, a part of the old garage in Peter’s backyard. There were six boys in the gang, and Marty had decided to air his gripes to the whole gang. He had had enough of adults - teachers and parents and the lot of them were nothing but bossy fun-spoilers.

When the others all came, Marty pulled up a wooden box to stand on and started off on his speech about adults and obedience. When he had finished, Peter got up. “We have got to think about this some more, seeing we are Christian kids. Marty can say all that but I don’t have to agree, and I don’t! I reckon that adults are showing their love for us by teaching us to obey. And I reckon that they have got to obey lots of other people too. Oh, and don’t forget they have to obey God as well.” They had a lively discussion then, with a lot of noise. It ended up in a wrestling match, everyone in, but it was all fun. Marty sat up finally, puffing and covered in dust from the garage floor. “I reckon Peter has got a point or two,” he said, “but I’m going to rub his hair in that bag of sand anyway. “ And he did!

The Bible tells us that obedience is something that we ALL have to learn. The basic training for obedience has to start in childhood. If it doesn’t, then kids can grow up to be lawless, out of control and unable to fit into society.  This makes them very unhappy. These Bible verses can be a good study for kids who are fed up with having to obey:
Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5;16; Proverbs 4:3,4; Hebrews 5:8.

Some teachers and educators today say that kids are equal with adults, and have to make their own decisions and rule their own lives. This is not what God says, however, and I know who I believe is right - God! Teaching children to obey adults is truly an act of love. Peter was right about that. What kind of parent would it be that just let the kids do what they liked? One who didn’t really care about them at all, and couldn’t be bothered to correct them.
The Bible tells us this:

“For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth;
even as a father the son [in whom] he delighteth.” (Proverbs 3:12).
“Chasten [correct]  thy son while there is hope,
and let not thy soul spare for his crying. “ (Proverbs 19:18).
Everyone has to obey, even adults. Adults have to train their children so that they will grow up to be adults who obey others. Adults have to obey policemen, obey the traffic laws and those in charge, obey those who collect taxes, obey those over them at work, obey a sound government - and so much more. There are always people who are in authority over us,  that is the only  way our societies can run smoothly. But above all we must obey God and His wonderful Word.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers [those in authority].
For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained
[ put in place] of God. “ (Romans 13:1).

(You can disagree with parents, and discuss things with them. But it must be done in the proper way, with respect. Parent can disagree with the government too, when the government wants them to do things God forbids them to do especially! But they have to go about their disagreements in a proper way  too - just like you do).
