Getting to know God together.

The Bible is truly a thrilling book! There are such amazing things written in it. In the book of the Old Testament, Isaiah, there is an odd way that God writes about wicked people.
God told Isaiah to write this about  them:
“They hatch cockatrice’ [ snake’s] eggs, and weave [ or spin] spider’s web... Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works...” (Isaiah 59:5).

Now that is a pretty interesting way to describe evil sinners. Those adders’ eggs must be poisonous, because God’s Word says, “He that eateth of their eggs dieth [dies].” We can sure understand that picture talk if we think carefully. Evil people can try to teach kids and adults that their evil ways and beliefs are great, like food for your souls. But their teachings are poisonous, and bring those silly enough to listen to them to ruin! Especially when these wicked people try to make others laugh at God and say He isn’t real! Or that the Bible is a nonsense book! That is real “snake’s eggs” teaching. Don’t swallow snake's eggs, called "cockatrice eggs” in Isaiah.
What about that interesting stuff about spider’s webs?

The spider’s web is really just foam. It comes out of the spider itself. No one can make clothes or cloth out of spider’s webs, although some humans have tried hard to. It is not strong enough and just disappears. It is a lot of foam gone stiffer for awhile to catch flies and other insects for the spider’s tummy. There is another little creature that is very handy for humans who want to make clothes. That is the silk worm. People take its cocoon and use the silk it makes into the most beautiful cloth of all - silk! Even kings and queens love silk clothes. That is nothing like spider’s webs though. Webs look quite beautiful, but no one can clothe themselves with spider’s webs spun into material.

What does God mean then when He says ‘their spider’s webs won’t become clothes, and they won’t cover themselves with their works?” God means that wicked people, who do not love and worship Him and want to do wrong things, have nothing to cover up their badness! They will find at last that all that they did in this life was just no good to make their sins go away. That all they did on earth could not be the “robe of righteousness” that only Jesus Christ can give us. Who ever heard of a dress woven out of  an old spider’s web? Yet, God Himself can give anyone who trusts Him “the garment [ clothes] of praise for the spirit of heaviness [sadness].”

I hope you won’t end up trying to make a covering for yourself out of spider’s webs. And I hope you won’t swallow down any  snake’s egg teachings! Jesus died for you on the Cross so that you can be covered in His “robe of righteousness.” He gives us His goodness so that we can stand in Heaven one day covered over with His own goodness - not our own. Have you trusted Him to be your Saviour? If you have you have His “robe of righteousness” so you can be with God forever. He covers up your sin.
“ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh [himself] with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself [makes herself look pretty]  with her jewels.”  (Isaiah 61:10).
