Getting to know God together.

When we went to Tasmania this year for a holiday, we had an exciting “en-counter” with a rainbow. We were driving along a lovely country road, when the sun’s rays came out from behind a cloud, and a glorious rainbow appeared in the sky. It stretched across the brilliant green hills and valleys, and stayed in view for over twenty minutes. It was a perfect rainbow, with no bits missing in its half-circle bow. It made me feel so peaceful and happy with that rainbow in the clouds, all the colours were so bright and gorgeous. It seemed to follow us as we ambled along the winding roads.

The Bible tells us interesting things about rainbows. Strange things aren’t they? All those colours, orange, red,  yellow,  blue and green, just coming in the sky as quick as a flash. There were no rainbows in the sky before Noah’s flood happened. God tells us why the rainbows are here now in Genesis 9:12-15. Here is the reason why God gave us these lovely bows:

“And God said, This is the token (sign) of the covenant (special promise or a deal) which I will make between me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations (for all the humans and animals that were born after Noah on the earth).

I do set my bow (rainbow) in the cloud and it shall be for a token ( sign) of a covenant (special promise) between me and the earth.

And it shall come to pass , when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow (rainbow) shall be seen in the cloud.

And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.”

God gave us rainbows as a sign to us all that He would never again send a world-wide Flood like the one in Noah’s time. He is showing us that He has promised never to do this again, because of His great patience with evil men and women and His mighty love for us. Even though we do wrong acts so much on earth.

The colours in the rainbow are caused by rays of light from the sun hitting the mist from clouds. The main colour in a rainbow is green, which reminds us of the beauty of nature with its green trees and grasses and forests. To see a rainbow we have to have both storms and sunshine. This can remind us that Jesus Christ had to die for our sins to make us safe with God . This is like a fierce storm.  And He gave us salvation, which is like the sunlight after the storm.

GOD has a rainbow around His Throne in Heaven. It is “emerald” or mainly green in colour too!

“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” (Revelation :2,3).

Thank you God for Your wonderful rainbows in the sky. It shows us how much You care for us and that You will never bring a great Flood again, ever!  I will remember this every time I see a rainbow. Praise the Lord!
