Getting to know God together.

“Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world,
Yellow, red and black and white,
All are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.”

The Lord Jesus is a wonderful Shepherd of His “sheep.” We believers are like His sheep, and just like a shepherd cares for his flock, Jesus cares for us. There is a lovely Psalm in the Bible,  a psalm is like a poem or a song. This Psalm shows how caring our Lord is. YOU are Jesus’ lamb, who is in His flock, so you can count on the fact that the Lord Jesus is looking after you. Let’s have a good look at Psalm 23.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
This means YOU. Jesus is caring for you, you will not “want.” This means you will not suffer lack of things you need when you trust God.

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
This means that Jesus your Good Shepherd will give you peace, and keep you from being upset by things in life. “Still waters” are about peace, no storms and bad winds of problems will upset those who trust quietly in Jesus.

“He restoreth my soul”
Jesus will make you all new in your heart and mind. Sometimes even kids can feel worried and all stirred up because they do not feel safe in this world. Even kids can feel that no one cares, and that everything is hopeless. But Jesus Christ can “restore” your hope in God’s goodness and His mighty power to make goodness triumph (win) in the end. Hurrah, God is mighty and good!

“he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
The “paths of righteousness” are the ways of God. Jesus will lead you into good living for God, and keep you from doing evil things which would destroy your life and happiness. He will do this because you belong to Him, and His name and honour are important. You are now called “Christ-ian” and bear His name.

“Yea (yes), though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; “
The most scary thing in life is death! But even though we see death around us here on earth, the believer in Christ Jesus does not have to fear dying. Jesus is with you forever, and He has defeated death for you. Praise His name.

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
Even when other people are nasty to you, you can still enjoy the Lord Jesus and feed on spiritual food from God’s Word. He can fill your life with goodness, so much so that “my cup runneth over” - it is more than enough, it is super, super supplies of happiness from God. Even when “enemies”  attack you.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Hey,  when we belong to the Lord there are no worries for ever and ever! He will make goodness and mercy be with us every day. That mean He understands when you make mistakes and let Him down, and will forgive you and make things right again. And God has a house in Heaven for you so you will be safe for all eternity.
