Getting to know God together.

The twins, Nadeen and Zachary,  were going on a train trip by themselves! They were going right up the North Coast of Queensland to Cairns, on the train, without adults coming along. The conductors had been given instructions about them, just to keep an eye on them during the trip. “We can’t afford those fancy meals on board, “ said their parents, “but you can take food and drink with you. A sort of picnic.” Mum knew how rough the twins could be so she gave them cups to drink from that were no longer used in the kitchen. They had a bottle of cordial, sandwiches, fruit and some chocolate coated biscuits. Everything was loaded up in their back-packs.

All went well at first. The twins read magazines, played a game, looked out of the train window and talked away to each other. After awhile they got thirsty, so Nadeen got the cups out, the cordial as well, and poured them a drink each. Zachary’s cup was OK, but Nadeen’s wasn’t! She poured the cordial in the cup, and before long she found it was leaking all over her jeans. It had a crack that could hardly be seen, that is until the cup was full. She decided to empty it out in the wash room. So she rushed down and tipped the water out in the basin. She turned the tap on the cup to wash the sticky cordial away, and it burst! Broke in half! All because of a little crack Mum couldn’t even see. So Nadeen had to drink out of Zachary’s cup for the whole trip!

A little sin in your life can cause a big break in the end! First you might start off just “stretching” the truth a bit,  just to show off or make things run smoother. Then you might tell small lies to your parents, now and then, just to keep out of trouble. Then you find yourself telling lies when ever you think it is better for you to do it! And before you know it SIN, which was just a crack once, has become a really big thing which is making your life useless to God. That broken cup wasn’t much use to Nadeen. Sinful lives are not much use to the Lord Jesus. Any kind of sin, not just lying!

Jesus Christ wants your life to be like a really clean, solid cup, with no dirt or cracks in it. If you let the Holy Spirit show you your life as He sees it, every day, little cracks of sins will not smash up your Christian life. You need to take those small sins to God, before they get bigger and worse! God has no sin in Him, He is “light” not “darkness” of sin. You must walk in the “light” about your own problems and sins, then you will have close friendship with other Christians, and you will walk closely with the Lord.

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship [Christian friendship] one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth [cleans] us from all sin.  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”  (I John 1:5-10).
