... God everything happens now. And on the cross, because Jesus is God, everything in human history occurred to Him and is occurring to Him as he hangs on the cross. That means if everything happens now with Jesus, as he hangs on the cross 2,000 years ago, He was and is, simultaneous with you sitting here, tonight..., Do you grasp the fact that Jesus on the cross and you sitting here are occurring at the instantaneous and simultaneous moment. The reason why that is so significant is because Jesus, on the cross, would reach out to you tonight and in His `instantaneous now - this very moment' from the cross, He will reach into your life and like a sponge absorb from you everything that is dirty - everything that is ugly, everything that is sinful, everything that is condemnable, and He will absorb it into his own body He wants to REACH OUT FROM CALVARY, invade you, and like a magnet, absorb, as though they were iron filings, everything that is sinful, ugly and despicable about you and make it His own. One of my students asked me,"Doctor, who do you think is the most evil man who has ever lived?" I said, "That's easy, it is not Hitler, it is not Ghengis Khan, the most evil man that has ever lived is a man who never committed a sin - its Jesus". For on the cross He, who knew no sin, says the scriptures, became sin. One the cross, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, if you will let Him, He will reach into you and drain from you and absorb from you and take from you everything that ought not to be. ...But Jesus reaches out from CALVARY THIS VERY MOMENT and asks you to confess your sins.... . let JESUS REACH OUT FROM CALVARY, to let Jesus touch you, and as He touches you ABSORB INTO HIS OWN BODY - INTO HIS OWN FLESH - everything about me and everything about you that needs to be removed.... REACHING OUT FROM CALVARY...HE ON THE CROSS,...CALVARY IN THIS INSTANTANEOUS NOW, INSTANTANEOUS NOW HE WILL REACH INTO YOUR LIFE AND ABSORB FROM YOU what is dirty and ugly and make it HIS OWN. ...He knew that on the Cross HE WOULD REACH FORWARD AND BACKWARD IN TIME, HE WOULD BE CONTEMPORANEOUS WITH EVERY HUMAN BEING THAT EVER LIVED. And on the cross He would absorb FROM THROUGHOUT ALL OF HISTORY ALL THE SINS AND ALL THE FILTH AND ALL THE DIRT OF US ALL. Jesus on Calvary, 2000 years ago, simultaneous with us tonight, ..."
 
 
 

"...Most young people I know - you can hardly call what they do sin. Sin by definition is an act of rebellion against God. I find very few kids rebelling against God, what I find them doing is having their behaviour controlled by conforming to others. Most sin is an act of CONFORMITY rather than rebellion....

...MY THEOLOGY HAS BEEN HEAVILY MOULDED BY STAR TRECK! (much laughter and clapping). Now you got to quote that last night! But in the movie "Star Trek 5" - I don't know whether you keep track of them. You said you go to movies - only Star Trek movies? In it a Vulcan who knew Spock when Spock was young, meets him as he takes over the Enterprise - they are always taking over the Enterprise. And in the conversation that ensued, it goes like this. Spock - "We were the two bright ones in our fifth grade class - we were the favoured ones. But we went our separate ways - you went the way of logic, (heavy breathing) -there is nobody more logical than Spock- right Captain?" Unless my calculations are mistaken, the space ship Enterprise and all inhabitants thereof will be animised, destroyed within 17 minutes and 22 seconds. At that point you can count on Kirk going ballistic. "Is that all you can say Spock - we are all going to die! We are all going to die! We are all going to be evaporated - and all you can do is say - and Spock with contempt says to him "I fail to see how emotion is going to change the calculations". That's Spock and this Vulcan says to him "Spock, did it ever occur to you that you cannot think your way to the truth, you cannot logically comprehend the truth, the only way you can get to the truth is to love your way there?" Wow, what a great lie! The only way to get to the truth is to love your way there. You see, that means that the stupidist person here can know more about God than the smartest person here. Because how much you know God and how deeply you have developed as a Christian has everything to do as to how deeply you love Him. I know dumb people who love God, and stupid people who love God, and I know brilliant people who haven't a clue as to what it is all about. Don't you? I praise God for the fact that he says that if you want to know me, you must love me. You have to love me with your whole heart and mind and soul and strength. You have to love me with everything you have got. This Jesus that cleanses you and fills you with His spirit wants to make you alive and fill you with love and excitement and enthusiasm. I preach A JESUS who creates aliveness, and you say, I would to God that I could understand. Well that's cute, but a God that you could understand would be a pretty small God. A God that you could comprehend would have such severe limitations that he couldn't do much for me. Here's what I have got to say - GOD IS BEYOND ANYBODY'S UNDERSTANDING AND COMPREHENSION.

...The Spirit wants to cleanse you, the Spirit wants to enliven you, the Spirit wants to lead you, the Spirit wants to give you assurance, certainty. He wants to lead you in a convinced state for one reason - there is a world out there that needs to be changed! Here is what it says starting at the 19th verse - "All of creation groans and is in travail waiting for us to come and deliver it." I like that - all of creation groans and travails. We are becoming ecologically conscious, we are becoming environmentally conscious. And we should! Christians should be "Green" for a very obvious reason. Jesus has CALLED UPON US TO RESCUE CREATION FROM ITS MISERABLE CONDITION, FROM ITS POLLOUTED CONDITION, FROM IS DESTRUCTIVE POSITION. Haven't we made a mess of the environment. If you think it is something here, you ought to come to America! The pollution of the rivers and the air, the messing up of natural resources, we are ruining the planet, we are ruining the planet. You say, well what has this got to do with Christianity? Well would you please read the Bible, the Spirit filled person is somebody through whom God is at work rescuing creation from its corrupted state - read it! It is in the Bible - don't fight with me, fight with Paul, he is the guy that wrote it (shouting). You say, are you really serious - of course! People say, well God has called us to be great stewards of His creation, indeed he has. But there is something bigger at work here - we kid ourselves that the Calvanists are right when they say "God created nature for us to enjoy". He didn't - the heavens were not created to glorify people like you and me, the heavens were created to declare (pause) the glory of God (patronisingly). (sighs from the audience). The heavens were created to magnify His name. Everything in nature was created for one purpose - not so that we could enjoy it, but so that it could worship God. That is why you are saved so that you can enter into worship. You say - that doesn't sound like fun. It is only because you haven't really worshipped. Real worship is the most fun that there is! You say - are you one of those guys that is out to save the whales? Of course! I can show you both in Jeremiah and in Jobes (?) that whales were created to sing hymns of praise to God. You say - wait a minute - are you suggesting that whales sing songs - if you don't know that, you don't know anything about whales. And they change their songs every year. Did you know that the humpbacks communicate through songs?

Seriously - you think you are the only ones that have a different dialect? The whales don't speak the same language, their songs are songs of praise to God. Let me make it simple and direct. Here it is Whenever we wipe out a species of whales, we have silenced a hymn to God! Whenever we wipe out a species of whales we have committed an act of blasphemy for we have interefered with the worship of our Lord. A week from now, I will be in Assisi, Italy with a bunch of Franciscan Monks - they are lovely Christians because I am going to spend some time learning from them, because St. Francis knew how to call the birds and the animals and the trees to worship God. You say - "It sounds new-age" - . Call it anything you want - it is just plain Bible "The trees clap their hands and the hills sing songs of praise" - and you don't believe it? It is only because you don't read the book of Psalms. AH! to be a Christian, is as the hymn says - "To join with all nature in manifold witness, great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness." ...Oh, God calls upon us to join with him to rescue nature.... ...To be Christian is to be filled with the spirit that transforms us into liberators. Jesus makes us free so that we can go out and become his instruments of creating freedom. You say "I don't know what this has got to do with the gospel." Don't you understand - apathied is sin, don't you understand destroying the environment is sin, don't you understand that the way we have treated aboriginal people is sin. (now shouting) It is not a social problem, it is a spiritual problem. God calls upon us not only to become new people, but become people through whom he can work in the world to change things. Let me put it this way - when you become spirit-filled you become a social revolutionary because spirit-filled people are people who are out there rescuing creation, rescuing people from bondage."

Now Tony shouts louder - "Its a party!" Jesus says, not only is it a party, I am the bridegroom, and as long as you have a bridegroom around, you are partying! And he looks over the crowd and says "There are not enough people here" - remember this? Some people didn't show up! He says to his disciples - "Go into the highways and byways and drag them in - the lame, the blind, the halt, the blind ones -they don't know where they are going - pull them in here. We are going to dance, we are going to sing - we are going to have a........ (Tony waits for the audience to reply)-response, "A Party."... There are people here because it is an older crowd today that will say,'Personally I prefer a more traditional approach (laughter). I think that this party emphasis is certainly off base and I find it personally offensive - the idea of Christians partying!' (Tony said this section from ' to ' with much disdain and scorn in his voice.)

Don't feel bad if you are in that mindset, because there are people in the bible that you could equally identify with. They are called the Pharisees (loud laughter and whistling and clapping from the audience). This is what happened, the Pharisees come to Jesus and they say 'You are supposed to be a man of God (exclaimed) You are supposed to be a man of God (scornfully). [End of Recording.]
