In “With Women” of the W.C.C., a small ceremony was enacted where the
speaker created a `Sacred Space' before beginning her address. This
is a New Age concept, which Christians should understand is not of God.
WHAT IS THIS PRACTICE ALL ABOUT?
Creating a sacred space is well known in New Age circles. It is taught by New Ager Denise Linn in her workshops. Linn is a global teacher on the Mind, Body, Spirit Festival circuit, these festivals are being organized in many countries. The Images points about 'creating sacred space' are:
It is thought to be a way to create an “abundant environment”. The belief is that doing this will “enhance you and support you”. An “environment” can mean any surroundings which you are in, be it a meeting in public, a garden, your home or the whole earth.
This 'sacred space' idea is based on THE FORCE beliefs, or the impersonal “God”, which should be made harmonious around you, and this harmony and peace can be absorbed into one’s personal “energy field”. This is pagan pantheism.
The New Agers use ancient belief systems, such as Feng Shui from China, to “contribute to the energy flow” in their surroundings.
The belief is that these “sacred spaces” must be protected from “negative energies” by performing “protection ceremonies”. Like the native pagans and witches of many centuries, they use salt! Doing such things as tossing salt into the corners of a room if “thought forms” or “astral projections” are taking place negatively against them. They draw circles of salt around their beds sometimes so that they might sleep better, protected from “negative energy”.
To 'create a sacred space' people use DRUMS, toss water, use smoke or
fire to “PURIFY THE ENERGIES”.
In Canberra at the Seventh Assembly, the World Council of Churches,
smoke was used as a pagan way of “purifying”,
the medium used was an aboriginal fire of gumleaves. In the “With Women”
meeting at Brisbane, W.C.C. women used drums and chanting of “Mmmmmm”.
Linda Walters claimed she was making a “space” by using a candle, figures,
red sand etc.
Colours, lights, crystals, mirrors, garden gnomes, wind-chimes, mobiles, aromatherapy, negative ionisers and so on, are all used to 'create sacred space'. In a bedroom, a small stone, representing the sacredness of the earth, may be placed under the bed as an “energiser”.
